What does the arrival of GB News really mean for the UK?

Instead, the smart money was on an as-yet-untitled rival conservative video news service from Rupert Murdoch's News Corp, led by the former CBS and Fox News executive David Rhodes. BBC to slash BBC Four shows but stops short of axing channel

The BBC today said it will slash original programming on BBC Four as part of a wider effort to cut costs, though it stopped short of axing the channel altogether. In its annual plan published today, the broadcaster said it would shift away from commissioning a high volume of lower cost shows for the channel. Instead, BBC Four will be used to house archive programmes from the corporation’s back catalogue. It will also continue to broadcast performances such as the Proms and BBC Young Dancer.

Digital UK Ltd is to combine the operations of the UK terrestrial platform Freeview with those of the satellite platform Freesat. In December it was announced that Arqiva was to stand down as a shareholder it Digital UK following reluctance to invest further in Digital UK's Freeview Plus, the HbbTV-based hybrid platform that has been able to add streaming services from both Freeview's PSB shareholders and the likes of Netflix, Amazon Prime Video and Now TV.
