I have just 'converted' to digital, using new digital aerial in the loft (listed building - not easy to site outside), signal split to 2 new Sony Bravia sets. During the day I am getting signal strength 80% plus, quality 80% plus. During the evening the signal strength if anything gets higher (shows 100% commonly), but quality drops to 35% on non-bbc channels (occasional pixilation), and down to 5% or less on BBC, so either massive pixillation or blank screen with 'poor signal quality' message. installer has come back and fitted masthead amp, no improvement. Postcode is B49 5LJ, pointing to Malvern. We are on the west side of the Redditch - evesham ridge, direct line of site to Malvern.

Reading previous post....I meant 'line of sight' (not site). Read the comments above about too much signal, but we were having the problem prior to the installer coming back and fitting the mast-head. There are no street lights within 3 miles in line of site.

Jon Segar: You are getting much as your would expect for a loft aerial. Either wait for switchover, or use Freesat where you can located the dish somewhere suitable - see Householder guide to satellite dishes | ukfree.tv - independent free digital TV advice .

I moved to my present house last August and at same time bought my first digital TV. Reception has been poor and unpredictable, picture often freezes or there is no signal. I am in Great Rissington postcode GL54 2LJ, unsure which transmitter I am facing (Malvern?) I have an aerial in the loft.Does this need tweaking? Have power booster attached to TV which helps but v annoying when you have planned to watch a programme and then have dropped signal! BTW I can't get any mobile phone reception here either. Do you know anything about UMA technology (using mobile through wifi?)...do I just live in a black hole? What can I do about it? Many thanks

AlisonJane: If you want reliable Freeview reception, you need to move the aerial from the loft to the roof.
If you do this you will not need to use the booster - boosters are terrible for Freeview reception, you may find removing it improves your reception.

Briantist,
Thanks for the advice, I think we will wait for switchover - the building is listed, so would need permissions to erect a dish (min 2 months), so better to wait

We are off of the Malvern Transmitter. Following last nights storm, we have 'No Signal' this morning, and our Bravia is unable to find any channels. Our areial is a wideband mounted on the roof. We do have a booster in the loft to amplify the signal. Is there work going on with Malvern Transmitter? Cannot understand why we have lost our signal?
