Bob Abbot: There's been no advanced warning of planned engineering work on the Peebles transmitter so it's reasonable to assume that there is currently a fault (services off air since 9:22 this morning according to the engineering post above yours). If your phone signal normally comes from a mobile base station on the same transmitter mast (most TV and radio transmitter masts also host base stations for the mobile networks) then it could be that either the mobile services have been switched off to allow engineers to safely work on the mast, or possibly that there has been a loss of mains power at the transmitter and any backup battery supply has been exhausted.

Bob Abbot: thanks bob, no notification, all channels off, radio off. Any update on completion? Why is my transistor radio still picking up borders radio? That just confused everything. Eh45 8qq. I can see the mast from my window.

Post code EH45 9DX Over the past couple of weeks my Freeview signal has been poor with Low Signal' constantly displayed on screen. The aerial is in the loft pointing towards PEEBLES transmitter. Interestingly when I do a manual retune only the SELKIRK and Black Hill transmitters come up as an option. I can only conclude the PEEBLES transmitter has been switched off. Is this correct?

We have had no freeview signal since 9.15 this morning. It happens far too often to make the licence fee worth paying. We don't get a full freeview service at the best of times, but this is very annoying. We don't even get digital radio!

Brian:

As you have no doubt discovered by now, your signals are back. The BBC have reported that the transmitter was Off the air due to essential engineering from 9:02am to 1:32pm on 4th Jun 2021.
Just so you know, advice is not to retune if you lose signal (for whatever reason) as this usually just clears the correct tuning.
Going by previous reports, the transmitter doesn't appear to be off-air on a frequent basis.

There are DAB radio transmissions from the Peebles transmitter, it transmits the BBC National multiplex Block 12B: 225.648 MHz. If you provide a full postcode we may be able to provide some reception advice. We might also be able to advise if you may be able to receive the commercial TV multiplexes from another transmitter. Other options are Freesat, if you have an unobstructed view to the Astra 2 satellite 28.2 deg E. A lot of modern sets have built in satellite tuners, so all you need is the Dish and LNB.

B French:

The Peebles transmitter is a relay of Selkirk and some viewers have been having problems with it but I can't find any "official" fault reports! Based on comments I've seen you should be getting the HD channels (if your set has an HD tuner) so you should have ITV, Ch4 and Ch5 in HD.
Do not retune as this will just generally clear your correct tuning and you'll just have to repeat the process when signals are back to normal.
If you are still having issues, please provide a full postcode so we can look at predicted reception in your locale.

Malcolm:

Have the channels returned?
I can't find any faults or outages listed for the Peebles Relay Transmitter either by Freeview or the BBC.
Was it a case of the channels disappearing but signal was still present, or did the No Signal message pop-up?
If it was the latter, I hope you didn't retune!

Retuning when you have no signal or badly pixellated pictures will usually just clear the correct tuning. There should be no need to retune these days unless a commercial operator has made some changes to their channels and you'll usually get a pop-up message to that effect.

If you did retune and you haven't got the channels back, you'll need to repeat the retune when signals are normal, you may have to try several times as you won't know when that will be.
