Ernie: It is highly unlikely that you will be able to receive the COM muxes from Sutton Coldfield after 21st September 2011 because they will be transmitted on the same frequencies that are used by Ludlow for the PSB muxes. Ludlow is a "Freeview light" transmitter and is not expected to have the COM muxes added on. The Digital UK postcode checker predicts that you might be able to receive the COM muxes from Ridge Hill when using a suitable aerial.

As I said before, I was so dissapointed to have so few Freeview channels, 31 approx. So I have just installed a 64 element high gain aerial and a signal booster from B&Q in my loft, swung it round to the general direction of Gloucester- Hereford, I now have 141 channels of high quality tv and radio, not bad for an outlay of around £70

Btw I asked ages ago about our aerial. It turns out that our aerial is indeed pointing totally the wrong way. I have installed a TV in the back bedroom, with an aerial inside and am getting perfect picture from the Ludlow transmitter, but the aerial on the roof receives absolutely nothing. In the main living room though we've gone with Sky as I don't really do climbing up on to roofs to sort aerials out (I get scared of heights!).

Oh also I have noticed on the Freeview we do only get a small amount of the TV channels on Freeview, I'm just wondering seeing as our TV only receives half the TV channels from our local transmitter does that mean we get a 50% reduction in our TV licence fee then? Shame it doesn't work like that, but really it should!

Darren: There is a two-tier transmitter system in the UK. All transmitters broadcast the Public Service Broadcaster (PSB) channels, which includes the BBC. The Licence Fee goes exclusively to the BBC, although payment does not guarantee possibility of any reception, from the Ludlow transmitter you have all BBC services.

The Commercial (COM) broadcasters pick and choose which transmitters they use - their objective is to turn a profit with no requirement to provide a Public Service. The Licence Fee does not go to these broadcaster.

I cannot agree with anyone who suggests that the BBC should receive less reevenue from viewers for whom the Commercial channels are not available. The Commercial licensees took a decision which should not affect the BBC's income!

SY8 3ED - Philips aerial inside house (flat panel aerial that incorporates a powered philips digital booster unit in it).

I was getting perfect signal from the Ludlow transmitter until the other day when all BBC channels disappeared. I've reset the TV twice now and the only one MUX it's getting is the channel 42 (ITV) MUX. Is there something wrong with the other two MUX at the moment?

Look at the entry immediately above yours! It states that the Ludlow transmitter was off air from 0908 until 1000 today.

L.Price: There is a transmitter engineering notice on the previous page dated Monday 12th December warning of possible service interruptions for Ludlow so it seems likely that the outage is due to planned engineering work. Do not attempt to retune, your channels will return when the work is completed.
