Martin: I've had a look at LG M227WDP Monitors - 22" TV Monitor - LG Electronics UK and the set is "HD Ready" so you will need to get a Freeview HD box to watch Freeview HD, the built in tuner can't receive the service.

hugh williams: Perhaps nothing, perhaps poor.

Maybe satellite (e.g. Freesat) might be a better bet.

hugh williams: I suggest that you use a log periodic aerial with a booster at your disposal. See:

TV Aerials for Boats and Caravans

A receiver (TV or box) with manual tuning may be useful, although you will need to know what channels to tune to (after having wiped what's already stored).

Manual tune functions usually act like a signal meter if you enter the desired UHF channel number but do not press the button to scan.

At the Fforest Fields Caravan & Camping Site, set your aerial for vertical polarisation and point it at 316 degrees. Then (having wiped what's already stored, perhaps by running it through with the aerial out) go to the manual tune screen and select/enter 49 and do not press the button to scan it, but instead see if it gives yo an idea as to the strength/quality. C49 carries BBC services. The other, independent, ones are on C42, so try that as well.

The hope is that it will show something and that it will allow you to adjust your aerial so as to see if you can better the signal.

It may be a long shot, but knowing where you need to point your aerial and using the manual tune function may help pick up an otherwise elusive signal.

hugh williams: Just a point concerning that seen in Dave Lindsay's link, I would strongly recommend the DM log be used in conjunction with a 0-20dB variable gain booster such as the SLX brand sold by Argos @ £11.99 item number 534 / 4235, because this makes an excellent combination for virtually any application whether caravan / boat or even a normal house.

The only one thing I will point out being, is that although the DUK trade predictor indicates excellent reception in the caravan site area from the Llandrindod Wells transmitter, this is somewhat contrary to what would be expected when viewing the info given on both terrain predictors, these indicating that the signal path between the Llandrindod transmitter and the site suffers from a severe level of obstruction, and so I would keep this in mind should you experience any problems as any signal that is received is likely to be mostly through reflection.

jb38: I'm not sure which "DUK trade predictor" you've been checking, but the official one suggestions diddly squat:

Coverage Checker - Detailed View

It is worth pointing out that the postcode is quite large, and even the Site's own website warns visitors to beware of trusting their satnavs because the centre of the postcode is not near the site.

Dave Lindsay: You are of course quite correct! as the indications indeed are that no reception is possible at this location from any transmitter including the signal from Ridge Hill which is also indicated as being blocked by the terrain, and so I have to put the cause of the error down to a post code typing glitch.

That said though, I do intend to check back later on today (after having had some sleep as on night time maintenance work this week) to see exactly what I was looking at, as wherever it was only indicated the Llandrindod transmitter on the predictor, although on a scout about the area the only aerial I found on a property facing towards the Llandrindod TX was in a place to the left of Hundred House shown in Google as Llansantffraed-in-Ewel, as one solitary aerial could be seen mounted on the property behind the phone box.

Re the Llandrindod Wells relay transmitter work I see it states, Freeview: HD Digital TV Off Air from 09:00 on 22 May to 09:20 on 22 May.
Well, I dont have Freeview HD just the bog-standard Freeview Lite with the dismal 32 services.
Nevertheless, since 22 May that has been reduced to a mind-blowing 8 services. I have lost 75% of Freeview Lite - it is now Super Lite?
All missing services are BBC related, i.e. all I have now are the ITV, Channel 4 & 5 services these being ok with strong signal strength, unlike the others which have zero.
I still receive the full 32 services on the EPG - although even that showed only 8 after one reinstall attempt!
Can things get any worse (rhetorical question I know the answer)?

Keith: Have you tried a manual tune on UHF channel 39 (for the missing BBC services)? Prior to pressing the button to scan, having entered or select C39, see if it gives an indication as to strength/quality.

Hi Dave, Ive tried a manual tune but theres no signal strength available during that process (as per the auto tune/install), the only way I can access signal strength is on an individual service basis by selecting the Information option.
Re manual tune: I enter 39 then it starts scanning but soon scrolls up to 42, where it sits for a while and captures the 8 services on that channel. Then it continues on around the clock scanning, in vain, until the progress bar reaches 100% - all pretty similar to an auto tune, except an auto tune automatically installs what it finds and overwrites any old stuff. I did have it show a bit of interest in channel 39 yesterday, during an auto tune, but all that gave me was the full 32 services showing on the EPG when I selected any of the channel 39 (BBC) services it still said the program wasnt tuned.
Its not as if Ive moved anything equipment-wise and nothings popped up between the aerial and the transmitter which is situated fairly close. The fact I receive channel 42 stuff a-ok makes me feel as though someone has reduced the power output on 39?
