Briantist: I mean the signal on mux 2 goes down to almost zero, and then goes back up again to 100% quality a few days later (I have not toched my equipment!) - on my old (2008) DVD recorder freeview.. Sony RDR-HXD990 (If anyone is using this in TW1, please say! :)

And yes, I have done all the checks, even disconnected any RF feeds to other TVs, that could disturb... (ch36 gives interferences problems or not??)

and my *brand new* HDTV seem to have no problems..

Have lost all Mux 2 channels for the past 3 days. This has been happening on and off since Oct 2010, but seemed to be normal for the past month. I'm in Harpenden (between Luton and Hemel on the map) and local aerial installers advise we get a better signal from Crystal Palace despite being in a green zone.

Briantist, thanks for the reply. I've rechecked for local analogue interference, but can't find any culprits. Postcode is AL5 4TP, and local aerial installers have confirmed that signal strengths are often down on what is normal (usually with no alerts that engineering work is taking place). I've assumed that Mux 2 is affected because its signal strength is lower than the others. Could it be that power levels are being tweaked in advance on the Anglia switch-over in 2 months time?

Paul: No, the power levels are never touched until the official switchover day.

Your best transmitter is definitely the Hemel Hempstead one - at the moment.

Due to the shifts going on around you, in 2012 both Sandy Heath and Crustal Palace, once switched will provide a much better Freeview service.

I have no idea why anyone would tell you that "that signal strengths are often down on what is normal (usually with no alerts that engineering work is taking place)". This is totally and utterly untrue.

But, as for the reason for your problem with multiplex 2, perhaps trying the Sandy Heath transmitter by moving your aerial?

seba672: Point your aerial at the Sandy Heath transmitter, n-ne 27°, you will receive Freeview HD on Wednesday 13th April 2011.

A wideband rooftop aerial is required for reception of all multiplexes from Sandy Heath.
