NICK ADSL UK : Yes I would be interested to know what is said on Monday. I have to say though that the tuners used in modern Panasonic TV's "are" top notch for their general sensitivity and likewise resistance to signal glitching, but though because of them being really sensitive do not take kindly to overly strong signals, although I haven't ever had one that cut out yet due to the signal level causing tuner instability, so if this is applying in your case then you must really have some level of signal.
However you can generally tell what signal is on the verges of being too strong on a Panasonic by going into the set up menu / manual tune, and using the up/down arrows on the large round centre button on the remote control inch up the whole range of the channel numbers starting from Ch21, as every time you strike a powerful channel the quality indicator will always usually be slow to indicate, and when it does it usually takes a couple of attempts to stabilise with signals on the strong side.
That's the other good point about the Panasonic, insomuch that if anyone wants to trim their aerial up to perfection (or as near as!) then if the screen is left sitting on the tuning menu referred to the individual muxes can easily be checked after each adjustment by simply using the up / down arrow button procedure referred to, as nothing requires to be scanned first.

Dear all.
Further to my recent questions about my Philips DW9625 digital tv, I checked today that my model is in fact the Philips DW9625/05R version. On some threads elsewhere, I have been told that my tv does include 8k support, it being the 05R version, and I wondered what further info/comments the panel of esteemed professionals on here could bring to my thread? My exact model is not listed on the digitaluk.co.uk website.
Just to recap, I had all of my channels prior to 4th April, most of my channels (bar BBC1/2) up to the 17th and no channels after the 18th. I have tried to retune but only get a red dot (square actually) which means I'm getting a very poor signal. Channel listings still show and I can still flick thru them. Community ariel upgraded recently.

I will indeed let you know JB on what transpires on Monday with my talks with digital UK
I still think as a perfectionist that it will be found to be tuner chip related only at the end of the day
As for the work around it will probably be that people like me will have to tune in to there local transmitter only and not one slightly further afield
I am on crystal palace so that will mean that i will have to go on to Reigate at extra expense

martyh: Well although I agree that the manual does indeed indicate that the set supports 2k/8k transmission modes a logical attitude has to be adopted with problems of this nature, insomuch that when you lost BBC on the 4th it can "only" have have caused by one of two reasons, the first being that the signal received in your area was excessively high that it was blocking the receivers tuner or that of the communal aerial systems distribution amplifier.
Secondly that irrespective of what might be printed in the user manual the TV is incapable of responding to 8k transmissions, these being the only reasons for the problem.
As far as the aerial is concerned, as others will be using the communal aerial system you would have heard by now if any problems existed with it, so the only thing you can do is, that if at all possible try another TV on the aerial socket provided as you have to verify that a workable signal is being received.
On the subject of the TV itself, it "might" possibly be that although 2k/8k compatible chips were fitted in the tuner the software necessary to activate the 8k side was not installed during the final set up procedure in the factory, as this is something that can happen and is unfortunately not be noticed until a much later date, the last instance of this I am aware of involving an older Toshiba model dating back about 4/5 years or so, with it also being stated in its manual as being 2k/8k compatible.
I will further investigate this angle, but I suggest that you try and verify the signal being received in your property so that the signal level aspect can be eliminated, that said though I strongly suspect that its a compatibility issue.

Prior to the changeover we received perfect Freeview from CP.
After the changeover, about half of the channels were no longer obtainable. Is this permanent or progress ?

If your TV is newish then as this time my gut feeling is that it is permanent I'm afraid
The main problem being in that their is no communication by the technicians at crystal palace with the public
That along with no communication by the technical staff from the TV manufacturers to the public hence those that are having difficulties are likely to remain permanently
And getting a aerial engineer out still might draw a blank and you'll be out of pocket
As a Microsoft mvp i do have access to the inner circles to some bbc departments and will see what i can come up with but at this time it's not looking good for many like myself

Thanks jb38. Will test as advised to see if I can eliminate - thanks for the explainations. Just out of curiosity - I note my tv has an upgrade facility (via on screen menu) and is equipped with an ethernet socket. Would I be right in presuming this may have been installed to allow any software enhancements to be downloaded to make it work with 8k at some point do you think? If so, makes me wonder why no upgrades were made available, or could be now. Philips say none ever were. Would have been an easy solution. I chatted with them today to put over the point that you addressed so well for me (about tv maybe having the hardware for 8k but not the software) but they didn't seem to know much about my tv or understand the point I was trying to make. Finally, again out of curiosity, I wondered if the Virgin V Box I have (it's an old one that has has rf in and rf out points) could be used as a terrestial freeview digital receiever at all? Would taking a coax cable from my tv wall socket routing through the rf in then taking rf out to tv ariel socket work? Thanks again for all your help. Regards, martyh

I have both a Sony television and a Sony Digital Recorder. Having done the retuning all channels seem to be perfect on the tv.
On the recorder the HD channels the picture breaks up intermittently for about a second or two.
When I did the retuning, I did it (as advised here) on the tv without the aerial first time and second time with the aerial. With the recorder I just did it with the aerial connected. Is it worth doing it again without and then with the aerial to the recorder?
It isn't a great hassle as I can obviously record off 1, 2, 3 etc.
