Calne local transmitter does not cover the new housing estate, which is only a few hundred yards to the south ! Will this be rectified/ updated in the near future ?
There are a few hundred houses being built and it is a nigtmare trying to get a terrestrial signal.

Phil: Have you asked the developer building the houses about it? It would be very unusual for a transmitter to undergo changes to its coverage area due to a new housing development. Freesat would be the obvious solution and would give you far more channels than you'll ever receive from the Calne lite relay.

Having lived near Calne I am not aware of any new developments to the south of the transmitter, in the direction of Mile Elm, Stockley and Headington. I am aware of a new development being built behind London Road/Quemerford off of Stockley Lane. But they are to the south east and within the claimed coverage area, see the coverage map near the top of this page.

Mike P : The new development which is called Cherhill view has three quarters of the site just outside the coverage area ! The developers do not care, they have tried ( obviously unsuccessfully) to fit their own aerials aiming at the Mendip TX... I was paid to correct them and managed to get the Calne TX.
Then the developers attempted to get a signal from the local TX, but kept the fitted aerial horizontal - I managed to get them corrected.
It is quite a large site and the rest of the site will get neither transmitter - which is frustrating when you can see it from the bedroom window !
I have told the sales ladies to tell the prospective buyers that their options are Sky or Freesat.
They have not told them that, I have to when they ring me. As I said - Frustrating !

That is the development I was thinking of.
There is no requirement in the planning process for anyone to even consider TV reception so there is no point in complaining to Witlshire Council Planning Department. The developers have no responsibility to ensure there is any TV reception possible either. They are very unlikely to tell prospective purchasers that they can't get TV reception other than by using satellite services. The same situation applies throughout the country and even affects mobile reception conditions, there is no guarantee of TV or mobile reception anywhere.
As far as aerials go, to get signals from the Calne Freeview Lite transmitter you need either a Group A aerial or a wideband one, preferably a log-periodic, with the rods vertical. For Mendip you need either a Group C/D or a wideband one as above with the rod horizontal, but I doubt whether Mendip would give satisfactory reception due to the hills in between. So it's not just a case of rotating the aerial from horizontal to vertical unless it is a wideband one.

Mike... I agree with you entirely - I was just venting my frustration at the situation. It is quite rare to be able to see the TX and not get a reliable signal ! Especially that close. So far all the aerials I have installed there are log periodic.
As for the C/D aerial for Mendip ... I would use a white or black aerial NOT a green C/D cos it will be of no use in 2019 , when Mendip changes its channel locations down to the 30's

MikeP: To be fair to the planners, how would you plan for terrestial TV reception? Reception is about geography, and a housing estate can't suddenly be move a mile away because the signal might suddenly be a bit dodgy.
And to be honest, if your buying a new house, TV reception probably isn't the key factor in your purchase!

My comment was that it is not a matter for the planning authority, it is not within their remit for consideration. So I do not expect them to take it into account unless the rules are changed - but that isn't going to happen. So I was beding fair to the planners.

My post code is SN11 9UN. I have no BBC channels available and the other terrestrial channels I have a poor signal message come up on all the TV's I have checked Freeview and. My digital channels are fine. I have BT box and aerial which up until now worked perfectly .
