I am having problems with the BBC Digital freeview signal from the Belmont Transmitter. It has had a very low signal for about two weeks now. Is there any issue with this frequency. I know of other people that are having the same problem too.

Peter Dawson: Work is constantly going on at Belmont in preparation for switchover next month, and although engineering information bulletin's are frequently seen as having been given, I really do think if they represented the true picture of whats happening there would be twice as many as what there are.
I have a number of friends in the Newark area and they are always on about it.

Belmont currently transmitting an incorrect date for switchover, the message box is saying to retune on the 10th and 24th August. Checked with Digital UK and they haven't put the date back.

What is ment when you say."After switch over you will have needed to upgrade to a wideband aerial to receive some or all digital televison services" SOME I thought that they would all be available?

Ian: Yes, that statement could really have been cut out, as its partially duplicating what has already been mentioned about wideband being necessary to receive Ch5 on analogue in the early days when it first started.
As most people who already receive Belmont will already have a wideband aerial no further alterations are necessary, except maybe to remove any aerial amplifiers that may be fitted to avoid the possibility of tuner overloading problems, this of course done after switchover should any signal overloading problems be suspected, e,g: signal cutting out or even no signal at all, as too powerful a signal can have exactly the same symptoms as one that is too weak, that being the beauty of digital, totally misleading symptoms to baffle the non-technical!

Steve: Those dates are for Chesterfield and Sheffield, not somewhere you can get signals from.

Briantist, I know but for some reason when I was setting up products yesterday for a couple of customers (manually tuned so I know they were on Belmont) the message was coming up on screen with the incorrect dates. I phoned Digital UK as I thought they may have put the dates back. They confirmed it's all on track for tghe original dates and said they would look into the incorrect dates being given on the message. I thought I'd post on here in case anyone else was confused by it.

Steve: Yes, there would be no way that dates would be changed, they are always fixed at least twelve months in advance.
The messages are created by on-site caption generators (for analogue) or MHEG5 insertion (for Freeview) so it is just possible that someone made a simple mistake.
