Update on BBC interactive TV services
In November 2019, we communicated that we planned to remove the text and data element of the BBC red button service due to financial pressures and the significant technical effort and cost of retaining the service, which would come at the expense of investing in other services. For people using the internet-based version of our red button service, we will be consolidating our internet-connected TVs apps, retiring the BBC News and BBC Sport connected TV apps before the end of the year as well as the lottery and weather pages on connected TVs. BBC iPlayer will become the home of much of the video content that is currently available on the BBC Sport and BBC News TV apps and the traditional text and data offer will remain accessible on the majority of internet-connected televisions via the 'Text' button on the remote control. - www.bbc.co.ukwww.bbc.co.ukSunday 11 October 2020, PM
YouTube more representative of Britain than television, says UK boss
YouTube's UK boss has said his platform is more representative of modern Britain than broadcasters such as the BBC, saying that television channels are falling behind because they do not provide material that speaks directly to all parts of the country. Unlike the UK's public service broadcasters - the BBC, ITV, Channel 4, and Channel 5 - YouTube is not legally required to invest in original news content. - www.theguardian.comwww.theguardian.comFriday 09 October 2020, PM
Why âAccess' and âFYI Daily' Exist â adambowie.com
Taking their scheduled duration as a whole, longer films may be interrupted once for each complete period of 45 minutes with a further break ifscheduled duration is at least 20 minutes longer than two or more complete periods of 45 minutes. Assuming that Access or FYI Daily are made for relative peanuts, and that the channels can persuade regulators that these are proper programmes, then they can get an extra ad break and make more money from the same film. - www.adambowie.comwww.adambowie.com#142 - Channel Four Sale, GB News Plans, BBC’s Oxbridge Problem, Local Newspapers Linked To Election Turnout

No Ofcom public interest test for Radio 1 Dance â RadioToday
Ofcom will not instruct the BBC to conduct a public interest test in relation to Radio 1 Dance, but will consider the market position of BBC Sounds in general. In reaction, Ofcom has written to the BBC to explain that it does not require a public interest test, because it considers the impact of the new stream on the market is likely to be small - particularly as it will be online only and contain no new or exclusive content. - radiotoday.co.ukradiotoday.co.ukWhat's next for the BBC's technology strategy?
The broadcaster has promoted Charlotte Moore tothe role of chief content officer and has an interim CTO, Peter O'Kane, reporting to interim chief operating officerGlyn Isherwood but, in its Annual Plan, the BBC has surprisingly little to say about technology. Radio reporters to be axed by BBC and told to reapply for new roles
Now the BBC plans to axe all its national radio reporters and ask them to reapply for a smaller number of jobs as television, radio and digital reporters, rather than as dedicated audio journalists. Negotiations between BBC management, producers and reporters are at a crucial stage, and one or two programmes, including the news flagship Today on Radio 4, may win some leeway, with producers allowed to commission specialist pieces. - www.theguardian.comwww.theguardian.comFriday 11 September 2020, PM
Sky Arts' decision to go free makes the art world more accessible to everyone
Making it free to air is a bold decision for a product based on a subscription model - yet it will clearly place Sky in the vanguard of arts coverage in the UK, and it will no doubt hope the goodwill it engenders will be converted into support for its paid-for offerings, including its on-demand library of 2,000 hours of arts content. To make its programming as expansive - and accessible - as possible, Sky Arts' new slate includes EastEnders hardman Danny Dyer presenting a documentary about his mentor, playwright Harold Pinter jungle pioneer Goldie revisiting the art that has influenced his music AC/DC frontman Brian Johnson meeting Foo Fighter and former Nirvana drummer Dave Grohl Benjamin Zephaniah celebrating the best of the spoken word and Elbow's Guy Garvey digging out all-time great TV music performances. - inews.co.ukinews.co.ukWednesday 09 September 2020, PM

Tim Davie's introductory speech as BBC Director-General
We have made progress, and I am biased, but BBC Studios has led the way, proving that we can create an organisation that attracts the best talent and creates unmistakably BBC content, while generating competitive returns. As you will have seen in your email, we have reduced the Executive Committee of the BBC from 17 to 11 to streamline decision-making and work as one BBC. Importantly, Charlotte Moore's appointment as Chief Content Officer will mean we work across the BBC to maximise the impact of all our content across audio and video. - www.bbc.co.ukwww.bbc.co.ukBBC boss Tim Davie to become stricter on staff airing views on social media
Tim Davie is to crack down on staff posting their views on social media in a move to restore the view of the BBC as impartial, and raised the question of slashing the corporations' output by a fifth, cutting more jobs and potentially shutting TV channels.
