This transmitter has no current reported problems

The BBC and Digital UK report there are no faults or engineering work on the Taunton DAB (Somerset, England) transmitter.

UK Free TV shows the coverage area for a radio transmitter as a coloured overlay (orange for FM, other colours for DAB) on the grey map. We have computed the coverage by combining the terrain with the official radiation pattern. A single click will select the transmitter to view the coverage for a single site, and a double click goes to a page showing full details. Click on the buttons in the right-hand corner of the map to choose from different frequencies (or multiplexes for DAB).

Chris:

I'm afraid I can't find any reported faults, but I suspect in the current climate they may get delayed or not even appear! Has reception returned ok, or is there still a problem?

I can't find any reports of problems with any of the DAB transmitters nearby that you may receive. Are you still having problems? If so, a full postcode may enable a search to see if there's a specific issue in your locale.

Hi Yesterday I lost all DAB reception for the main BBC stations plus many others. Doing a scan my receiver found 30 whereas before it found 70 plus. I have an external DAB aerial connected to a Marantz M CR612. The aerial looks ok and I have checked the connections I can access.
I can receive Heart, Greatest Hits, Smooth, Capital and BBC Somerset plus others.
My post code is TA1 3EL Taunton Somerset.
I have the aerial pointing to the Mendip TX the same as the TV aerial.
Any thoughts?

Thank you

The BBC are normally very good at listing any faults for multiplexes carrying their stations, but I can't find any faults listed for Mendip or Exeter (to the north of you, no doubt within the beamwidth of your aerial pointing at Mendip). Exeter also transmits all the main National multiplexes as does Mendip. It might get signals from Mendip, I'm not sure, but the Mendip TV transmitter is currently listed for Planned Engineering so there's a possibility that DAB signals might have been interrupted.

I don't know how directional your aerial is (possibly not highly) as BBC Somerset is transmitted on Block 10B: 211.648 MHz from the Taunton transmitter as well as Mendip.
I would have expected you to also get Block 11C: 220.352 MHz from the Exeter transmitter carrying BBC Radio Devon as well as some commercial stations.

Hello - hopefully this is the right page for my query. If not......
Our problem is with DAB reception in Taunton. There is no sign online of an advertised issue with the local transmitter.
The reason I question the transmitter status is that until about 2/3 weeks ago all 3 of our Pure Classic and Pure Mini radios had perfect reception - without the need to even raise their attached aerials. But then simultaneously they all lost any reception - other than the odd crackly noise from on ot two of the stations - when the aerials are raised. There is still no change with each of the three radios showing "station not available" for any of our normal stations - such as BBC, LBC, Classic etc
Thank you

This is strange. There are currently no reported faults for the Taunton DAB or Mendip DAB transmitters from which you should get good reception of the main BBC National, National Commercial D1 and Local multiplexes. Mendip also has the National Commercial SDL multiplex but you may not get reception of that one depending on location.

It sounds a bit like you may be suffering some very local interference. Have you had any new electrical equipment, anything switched on that normally isn't, anything that may be faulty/misbehaving at all?
Any roadworks outside with Temporary Traffic lights? Any scaffolding gone up next to you which could affect signals? Any new or upgraded phone masts very close to you (ie. right outside your house) although they really shouldn't give a problem to DAB.

If you have any suspect electrical equipment, try turning it off or unplugging it if possible, or turn off circuits one by one (process of elimination) at the Consumer Unit and see if reception improves.
