Oliver Webb: Or indeed anyone else having problems receiving Oxfords COM4/SDN transmitters new Ch50 operating channel such as used by ITV3 / QVC / E4 etc and they happen to reside in an apartment block whereby are using a communal aerial, then the agent responsible for the maintenance should be informed as its entirely their responsibility to resolve the situation, of course "before" contacted the latter having made one or two checks with a neighbour to ensure that others are also experiencing the same problem.
However, if the other hand a communal aerial is not being used then try a manual tune test on mux Ch50, this done by going into the set up menu / manual tuning and entering Ch50 into the box but with this action NOT being followed by pressing search or scan, because by not doing so the signal level of anything received on Ch50 should be displayed, at least it will be on most equipment.
Should any levels be indicated then make a note of whatever it is then change the number entered into the box from Ch50 to Ch55, likewise making a note of its level, because if its being received OK by the TV or box (e.g: Film4 / Yesterday etc) and ITV3 etc is not, then the signal level received from the SDN transmitter is under that required by the receiver to resolve a picture, this being cured with either the aid of a booster or alternatively the aerial may require to be changed to a group E or a wideband type, although in most cases a booster should suffice provided that the signal quality was observed to be reasonably constant.

Irene: This channel only operates on a part time basis on Freeview between the hours of 08.00 and 13.00 hrs albeit that it is available 24/7 via its on-line service, this being the reason for the caption reminding potential viewers to make sure that their TV's are connected into the internet.

My Thomson DTI 6300-16 Top Up TV Box, has been working fine for many years. I had to do a rescan and now only three channels come up. It keeps coming up with "This is due to a weak channel 16 (QVC) signal. What does that mean. My TV has freeview uses the same arial socket, and that works just fine. Can you help me here please..?

Ray: Although there is always the possibility of a software issue being involved when dealing with receivers of the older variety, something which in the case of the DTI 6300-16 cannot be rectified as over-air updates have not been available for a few years now, however a more likely reason for your particular problem is down to a defect in the boxes internal power supply, the fault referred to caused by the main electrolytic capacitors having dried out and losing their capacity, this resulting in the tuner being supplied with a lower voltage than it requires to operate correctly with the effect that it becomes insensitive.
The reason for the problem only being revealed after a rescan being that the EPG information was already stored in the boxes tuner, this having been erased by the rescan, and with the insensitive (suspected) tuner being unable to recover the data.
That said, and although a long shot as the box is obviously defective, try leaving it disconnected from the mains for an hour or so to allow the power unit to cool down "then" carry out another retune, as "sometimes" the voltage will have recovered enough to allow the tuner to operate correctly enabling the channels to be recovered, albeit all it does is to place you in the same position as before the initial rescan, as the voltage will drop off again.

Dave:
There's been engineering work going on at several transmitters in recent times which may have resulted to interruptions to transmission or weak signals. If you retuned during any of this, it's possible that you may be incorrectly tuned to the wrong transmitter for some or all of your signals.
Your best signals should be coming from the Ridge Hill transmitter which means your aerial should have the rods horizontal and be pointing roughly WNW. There's no planned engineering that should be affecting you this week.
First I suggest you check all your coax connections etc by unplugging them, check they are clean and not corroded. Also check that your aerial looks intact and is pointing the correct way.
Whilst the aerial is unplugged, carry out an automatic retune, this should clear all previous tuning.
Plug the aerial back in and repeat the retune. Hopefully you will have all your channels back and the problem be resolved.
If your problems continue, the automatic tune may still have tuned into the wrong transmitter, or you may have an aerial installation problem.
To check you are tuned to Ridge Hill correctly, enter your tuning menu and look for what will give the UHF channel numbers for each multiplex, this could be a Signal Test option or maybe Manual tuning.
For the non-HD programmes, the UHF channels are 28, 25, 21, 24, & 27. If you have an HD tuner/set also 22, 55 & 56. If you find you aren't tuned to these, then repeat the automatic tune with the aerial unplugged, and then plug it back in and do a manual tune for those UHF numbers.
