Jasmine: I don't think the international version of the channel is on a system in the "Middle East" at the moment, go to BBC - CBeebies - Home and see what it says.

Hi. I don't have a tv and am considering buying one so my children can watch CBeebies. We haven't had the digital switchover and won't until the end of next year (we're the last area to get it). Will I need equipment other than a tv that has Freeview in order to get CBeebies? Thanks.

Jen5: Basically a Freeview TV is all that's required plus a suitable aerial, or the one presently used turned around to face the Weardale transmitter, unless that is you are already using it for your analogue reception, your area being a bit iffy as far as reception is concerned.
As you are having to wait until next September 26th for reception of only the BBC / ITV / HD service as Weardale will only be a PSB station, why don't you consider Freesat? (if allowed a dish) because as well as it being ultra reliable for reception you would have the full compliment of programmes straight away.
Some TV's have Freesat built in, or you could use a normal TV coupled to a Freesat box. (even an old analogue TV so long as it has a scart socket)

Jen5: just to add, provided your reason for not having a TV is NOT because there is no signal at your location, as this is unlikely to change any.

Hello. Thank you for your help. No, that's not my reason: I just don't really watch tv. I've never had a tv in this house and we don't have any existing aerial. I've heard the reception is bad around here. Some of our neighbours have dishes; some have aerials. I'd like to be able to get Cbeebies and digital radio station BBC 6 Music. I don't really need anything else. Do you think an aerial would do this? If Freesat would be better, would buying a tv with Freesat or a Freesat box be instead of a dish, or along with it? I can put up a dish on my house, but would rather not as I don't like the look of it. It will cost such a lot to buy all of this stuff - tv, dvd, aerial/dish/box, etc that I want to ensure I will be able to get Cbeebies before I start buying. Thanks for your help. This really is very, very helpful for me.

Also, can you tell me what the difference would be between an aerial and freesat? Since I don't already have an aerial, it might be worth a little extra to get freesat instead? Would an aerial mean a couple of channels and freesat 50+ or something? Or does it mean better reception? Thanks.

Jen5: Just had a check at your reception possibilities, and I have to say that at this present time they aren't really very promising, with this situation not really showing any signs of improvement until September 2012.
Even then though you "might" only be able to receive PSB transmissions from Weardale, this being the case I would recommend that you go along the Freesat line, as satellite reception is 99.9% of the time perfect, as its only sometimes during a heavy rainstorm that the picture might be seen to glitch slightly.
