Walter raybould: If you have already carried out a complete retune (auto-tune) on your TV and yet are still unable to view Al Jazeera on (108), including BBC News HD on (107) or RT HD on (113)? all broadcast by the COM7 transmitter, then can you view BBC2 HD on (102)? (not just 2) if not, then this indicates that the TV you are using is *not* capable of receiving HD transmissions, i.e: of the HD ready variety.
If though on the other hand you *are* able to view BBC2 HD on (102) but not any of the others mentioned, then this is inclined to indicate that rather than receiving Freeview from the Winter Hill transmitter (@ 22mls) you are receiving it from the Storeton relay transmitter (@ 7.5 mls), COM7 (which carries Al Jazeera etc) not being part of the transmitter line up at Storeton.

Cheers J . As stated my Panasonic smart tv , is only 7 months old, Full hd. with the DVB-T/T2 receiving system. I can receive HD 101, 102, 103,and 104. no others. I have tried the re-tunes. Also asked the owners of the communal aerial, to have a technician look at the external aerial. I am not savvy to all the technical aspects so am hoping it is an aerial issue. Thanks once again.

Walter raybould: Thanks for the update, the content of confirming that you are indeed *not* receiving Winter Hills COM7 transmitter. As far as reception is concerned, DUK's reception predictor indicates excellent reception of all channels in your area, however, the terrain indicator does show that the signal path from Winter Hill as running close to the ground from around one mile or so prior to your location, something which in certain circumstances can cause problems with reception from lower powered transmitters, COM7 radiating on only 25% of the power of the other Multiplex channels.
Taking this into consideration, although nothing appears as being received from COM7, it might be the case that it is, but at a level under that necessary for reception.
The usual way of testing for any traces of a signal is by selecting the "manual" tuning facility on the TV followed by entering the multiplex channel number of the transmitter in question, this being C31 in the case of Winter Hill, the important thing being to pause after entering the number, i.e: *not* pressing search or scan, because on most TV's or boxes if any traces of a signal is being received, the strength / quality level of will appear on the indicator bars.
Apart from that said, it might still be the case that the communal aerial is facing towards the Storeton transmitter, and which as previously mentioned does not transmit a COM7 signal. If you have a good view of the aerial? Winter Hill is located at an angle of 59 degrees whereas Storeton is at 195 degrees, although the somewhat easier way to tell which transmitter the aerial is facing towards is by its mounting polarity, this being horizontal for Winter Hill (elements flat), whereas with Storeton it's vertical (elements pointing up/down).

Thanks again J. your article was informative. i manually tuned as you suggested. The ch31 at 554 mhz showed no signal at all. the only strong signal was on ch54 at 738mhz. (does that make sense?) if as you appear to suggest my location is at the periphery of Winter hill, then even aerial adjustments might not be the answer. The owners of the communal aerial will have it looked at,until then there appears to be nothing i can do to better the situation. Cheers!

Walter raybould: Yes, C54/738Mhz is Winter Hills main HD transmitter. However, re "being on the periphery of Winter Hill", I wasn't really suggesting that this applied to your location, but just that as the signal path from said station is seen to travel close to the ground prior to your area, this is something which under certain conditions, can sometimes cause problems with the reception of signals from lower powered transmitters.
I do though think it best to have your communal aerial checked out, especially when no signal whatsoever was detected on the manual tune test, as the aerial input to the communal distribution amplifier "might" have been fitted with a filter to cut out reception of channels under C49, this being the lowest channel number used by Winter Hill prior to COM7 / COM8 starting transmission.
There is another little test you could maybe carry out now that you are au fait with the manual tuning test, that being to check for any traces of a signal from the Flintshire (Wales) Moel-y-Parc COM7 transmitter on C32, this station indicated by DUK's reception predictor as providing a slightly superior level of signal in your area, albeit if the aerial was facing towards it!, although it doesn't really matter about this as far as a signal trace test is concerned, as the signal is received on the reverse of the aerial.
Finally, if easily seen, it would also be of assistance to know the model number of your TV.

J, Thanks once again for your informative response. As you suggested i tried C32 but no signal. I had good signal strength & quality on C 50,54,55 and 50% C56. MY TV's are both Panasonic, a TX-40AS640B & TX50CX700B. The latter being 8 months old. The communal aerial is on a 2mtre pole ,points due east. its overall height incl roof height is approx 10mtrs. considering your comments it appears the aerial needs a re-tune or replacement. Cheers J.

I have a Samsung UE40JU7000 smart TV which I bought in 2015. Screen message on channel 133, AL JAZEERA, told me to retune to channel 108, however this channel will not tune to that station. I can tune to other HD channels on 102 etc.
I rx from Nottingham Kimberley xmitter.
Can you provide a link to a location that shows the channel muxidentities for Nottingham.
Incidentally, if I try to auto-tune on a HUMAX box it tunes to West Midlands.
Kind Regards

Dave Jenks: The reason for not being able to receive (108) Al Jazeera is basically due to this programme now being broadcast on one of the more recent COM7 HD transmitters, unfortunately this not being part of the transmitter line up at Kimberly.
The only chance you have of being able to view this programme is if Waltham (or possibly Sutton Coldfield) can be received in your area, a post code or one from nearby, e.g: Post Office required for checking.
Which Freeview channels does the Nottingham transmitter broadcast?
Which Freeview channels does the Waltham transmitter broadcast?
Which Freeview channels does the Sutton Coldfield transmitter broadcast?

TKS jb38.
I can rx Waltham and Sutton Coldfield. Could I manually tune so that I rx this COMM 7 HD channel from W. or SC and the rest from Kimberly?
Kind Regards

Dave Jenks: Yes, that is "if" the level the signal is received at is sufficiently high enough to be captured by the tuner.
The best way to check is by pausing (not pressing search) after you have entered either Waltham's C31 /554.0Mhz or Sutton Coldfields C33 /570.0Mhz into the manual tune box, as this procedure will reveal if anything is being received nomatter how low the signal might be (handy for trimming the alignment of an aerial!) whereas pressing search or scan immediately brings threshold limits into the equation, this being why that even although a signal is indicated on the manual tune test, the programme EPG number might not appear in the guide list.
