My Freeview box has no EPG, is blank on FIVE, ITV3, ITV4, ITV2+1, has no sound o
To deal with the problem you must clear the channel list completely and then rescan - if your box has it in the menus, please the 'installation menu' to do an initial scan or a reset to factory settings or First Time Installation. You MUST delete the entire existing list of channels. On most boxes this technique can be also be used:
Try this:
1) unplug your Freeview box (or idTV) from the mains;
2) unplug the aerial from the Freeview box by disconnecting the cable from the 'RF in' socket;
3) wait 30 seconds;
4) plug Freeview box (or idTV) mains back in;
5) do a complete scan for channels - it will fail without the aerial. (This may be in the installation or initialization menu, and is distinct from any 'add channels option'). Once this is done your channel line up should be empty;
6) reinsert aerial by reconnecting to the 'RF in' connection;
7) do a complete scan for channels again.
The Freeview channel line-up provided by six "multiplexes" - each of which carry five or more TV channels, radio channels, text services and EPG data. In this diagram each ROW represents a multiplex. If you are still missing a whole multiplex (ie everything on the row) you may need to replace your aerial with a wideband type, purchase a larger aerial or you may have interference from a VCR, games console, Sky Digibox or similar.
Can someone explain why none of these, it seems, country wide, problems were identified before now, and if they were why were we not told. I run a motel and believe me if we experience the problems others have on the 14th I know at least one long term resident who will simply not understand it's not our fault, and to be honest can you blame him when we are told this switch would be great for consumers.
By the way what happens if we don't retune on 14th and just wait for the 28th.

Robert: I'm sorry, your comment deems a bit disconnected, I can't quite follow what you what you are referring to as "country wide, problems were identified before now" so I can't understand what you are being blamed for.
If you don't retune on the 14th, then you will have no BBC One, BBC Two, BBC three, CBBC, BBC News or interactive services to watch. BBC FOUR, CBeebies and BBC radio will continue.

Since the switch over (august in the East Midlands) I can only view programs properly through sky (Channel 6)
all other channels are like snow storms
this was not like this before I retuned, which I did several times both manually and automatically
what can I do?

I have a problem with getting EPG details on my new Bush HDD Recorder which I bought Mon from Argos.It worked perfectly before 7th September. It receives all channels perfectly but does not have any EPG details for BBC1,BBC2,BBC3,BBC4,BBC News,BBC Parliament,CBBC,CBeebies or Red Button.All other channels have full EPG details. I also have a set of shadow channels for BBC(NIL% Signal according to machine)but they all have EPG details ! I telephoned Argos Helpline and was told that it was because the signal was too weak(the signal according to machine ranges between 64% -78% with 75% quality)When I pointed out that other channels inc shadow ones have much lower signal and have full EPG he said this was irrelevant ? He said that after 21 September things will correct(I'm beginning to suspect this is the catch all excuse at the moment..I wonder what will happen on 22 September if it doesn't ?)
I have carried out above procedures several times to no avail. As a matter of interest I have also 3 Samsung IDtVs,one old Alba Digital recorder and an old Philips set box.All these receive channels perfectly and all have full EPG details for all channels inc BBC.
I know this is a small issue compared to the other problems people are experiencing but it is really annoying to have spent out £100 and find it's the new recorder that has the problems and you can't actually set timer record.Incidentally the machine has no facility for manual retune..it's all automatic !!
I'd be interested if anyone else is experiencing this problem. I suspect it's an equipment issue but I'd think several hunderds of these things must have been sold recently they can't all be having the same problem with EPG on BBC ? Can they ??

Alan: As your legal rights will be exactly the same after the 21st as is presently applying, then I wouldn't worry too much about it. If however that after switchover and you have completed a further factory re-tune only to find that the situation hasn't changed, then its possibly time for you to return to the store complete with box.
It should also be pointed out though, that you cannot really accurately judge one device not being able to do something that another can (or vice-versa) as a fault being in existence, as no two brands of devices respond in exactly the same way to the same signal.
What model is the offending item?

Thanks for comments. I know that Argos will replace/ refund if problem persists as I will be within 30 days re faulty goods. I've never had any problems with them regarding that in the past and find them pretty good
Model is Bush BU11FVRSD50 Interestingly this is actually an exchange/replacement for the one I bought at the end of August(same model).That one had problems with playback of recordings freezing,pixellation,jumping etc although there was no problem with "live" transmissions only when playing back recordings.The replacement did not seem to have those problems and touch wood apart from the EPG problem is so far ok although I've only had it for less that a week.
I don't know whether the machine's tuner is more sensitive than the others and the original machine may have been ok. Fingers crossed that everything will be ok post-21st.
