Broadcasters petition Supreme Court in Aereo fight - Internet Media - CNET News

The Supreme Court should review the case, the broadcasters argue in the petition, because courts outside the Second Circuit based in New York have been shutting down similar services, setting up court conflict. The petition also argued that the Second Circuit decision in Aereo's favor is rapidly and deeply harming the television industry. All petitions to the Supreme Court have a long shot of being granted. - news.cnet.com

When Our News Is Gerrymandered, Too - NYTimes.com

I read an interview this past week with someone who gets his news from a narrow band of information providers. He reads The Wall Street Journal, a really good newspaper that tilts right on its editorial page and sometimes in its news coverage. He also reads The Washington Times, a more reflexively conservative publication, and listens to the talk guys on the radio during his commute to work. - nytimes.com

Fifty years on, a new assault is coming, led by iconic U.K. characters featured on TV shows. For decades, U.S. networks gave British shows the cold shoulder, remaking what they liked with American actors and scripts tweaked to fit local humor and sensibilities. For the broadcast networks, the big ones, its become all about the shows that define them, and they spend a lot of money on shows that fulfill that, said Cathy Payne, the head of worldwide distribution for Dutch production house Endemol NV. - bloomberg.com

Terry Wogan on his hatred of Jimmy Savile and how his crimes were open secret at BBC - Mirror Online

The 75-year-old broadcaster has told of how he despised Savile and how his horrific legacy of child abuse has poisoned the BBC. This whole Savile thing has poisoned everything. Paedophile Savile preyed on at least 450 children and young people - many on BBC premises as well as dozens who were sick in hospital wards. You kind of admired him for doing as well as hed done, without any talent whatsoever. But Sir Terry is more defensive of Stuart Hall who was jailed in the summer for a series of indecent assaults on children describing him as a good-humoured fella, very ebullient. - mirror.co.uk
