it's an offer we can't refuse from the Murdochs

Ofcom - so wet that it's the regulatory equivalent of Ross from Friends - had advised her to refer the bid to the competition watchdog on grounds of plurality, a situation the Murdochs would easily have handled. So with the Murdochs, whose populist papers pushed relentlessly against the dastardly EU for decades, yet are now keen to point out how much the country is going to need the Murdochs' business now Brexit's pushing it towards the financial shitter only they can fix us. - www.theguardian.com

Statement from the Culture Secretary on the proposed Sky plc / 21st Century Fox Inc. merger

Mr Speaker, I am here to give an update on the proposed merger between 21st Century Fox and Sky Plc, and my decision whether or not to refer the transaction for a full 6 month investigation by the Competition and Markets Authority. The first concern was raised in Ofcom's public interest report that Fox did not have adequate compliance procedures in place for the broadcast of Fox News in the UK and only took action to improve its approach to compliance after Ofcom expressed concerns. - www.gov.uk

BBC is paying too much for talent it can afford to lose

The dogmatic insistence that the BBC had to pay higher salaries or lose talent had been spiked by presenter John Humphrys on Radio 4's Media Show, when he was asked if he would do his job for less money.
