Can ITV stage a comeback? -TV Radio, Media - The Independent

Married Single Other was supposed to rekindle ITV's long-lost reputation for making contemporary relationship drama, and its middle-class trappings were intended to deliver a wealthier audience for the broadcaster's advertising clients. Neither man has significant previous experience of the television industry. Earlier this month, it announced an 8 per cent year-on-year upturn in advertising revenues in the first three months of 2010, with the figure expected to rise to 22 per cent in the second quarter, on the back of the World Cup ad bonanza. - independent.co.uk

Freeview says it is still too early to provide official sales figures for its HD boxes, but demand has been strong. - independent.co.uk

BBC Television Centre to be redeveloped as cultural quarter | Media | The Guardian

Under the proposal the BBC would sell Television Centre to developers but rent back some of the studios to continue making programmes at the site, and perhaps lease some space to house an orchestra. The rest of the centre parts of which are crumbling and likely to be demolished to make way for new buildings could become home to independent production companies, other media organisations and performing arts companies. Some or all of the studios are likely to be kept by the site's new owners and used by the BBC. - guardian.co.uk

According to statistics released last week by the industry body Rajar, the proportion of radio listening done digitally on digital DAB radios, through television sets or online was up by 19 per cent year-on-year in the last quarter, the biggest upsurge ever recorded. In return for handing over that cherished tranny or vintage FM set, listeners will be given a discount on their new DAB model. Live Radio over the Mobile Web

Mobile users with internet connectivity can now listen live on pretty much any phone to all of the BBC's national radio networks directly via our mobile web pages. Live radio is the original mobile media, since the mid 1950s when the Regency TR-1 introduced the world to transistor-based radios - looking not enormously dissimilar to the Apple iPod. See this picture comparing the two on Flickr. Although many devices have FM radios included - this is not so in most of the latest web-centric smartphones, nor does it give access to our digital radio networks. - bbc.co.uk

Project Canvas: OFT approves internet TV service - Telegraph

The internet connected TV set-top box, which has faced strong opposition from several media and technology companies such as Sky and Virgin Media, is now expected to go into production, having cleared its biggest regulatory hurdle. Several organisations believe Canvas could distort the IPTV market, and claim the companies involved with the project have failed to engage sufficiently with the wider industry. Canvas partners have argued that a common standard is needed to help develop the on-demand television market in the coming years, while opponents, including the Digital TV Group, which has set standards for set-top box technology for more than a decade, claims they and television manufacturers have not bee sufficiently consulted. - telegraph.co.uk
