The access to the temporary mast site is stalled because of a bit of heather. I find this absolutely incredible in 2021.
There are millions of people without their favourite channels and radio and heather is taking priority over restoring their signals. You have said that the area is huge so what is the problem with making a site of a few acres and an access road in the so called huge area?
If some heather is destroyed in the process so be it. Given a few years it will grow again. If you are that worried about it you can transplant some from another area to get it going.

Mike Curtis: There is even more to ponder over with respect to this. Arquiva's plan is to erect a temporary tower ca 80 metres high near the existing site at some unspecified time in the near future which will sit on concret blocks. SInce Bilsdale is 315 meters in height this will still be unsatisfactory for many. North York Moors National ark planning authrority have said that the 80 meter arrangement will be unsuitable in the depths of winter. Arquiva have given no indication as to when and if they intend to replace the current Bilsdale Tower on a like for llike basis. They could have submitted a planning application to replace the current Bilsdale Tower on a like for like basis but apparently haven't.

Graeme Robertson:

Please be aware that posts don't always appear immediately so posting twice is unnecessary.
Where is the link to where the National Parks Authority have said the 80m arrangement will be unsuitable in Winter? What do they know about masts and structures? It was my understanding that it is Arqiva that have said it won't be suitable - due to the way it will be anchored (to minimise the damage to the area).
As far as any replacement for Bilsdale goes, maybe they haven't finished assessment of the damage to know whether it can be repaired or needs to be replaced!

I didn't post twice - I clicked post twice due to the website being unresponsive Regarding the See Bilsdale transmitter: Replacement TV mast could take months to build - BBC News Why not just get on with a like for like replacement mast at the same site. The 80 metre tempmast will deliver an inferior service and will cost time, money and effort.

"A meeting of the North York Moors National Park Authority (NPA) heard its construction was some way from starting and would take a month alone. The authority's director of planning Chris France said emergency national planning regulations allowed replacement masts as long as they were movable without the need to go through the planning process. Mr France said as the temporary mast would not be permanently tied down it would not be suitable over the winter at such a height and exposed location and after three months, Arqiva had indicated "another replacement mast" may be required which they said would be subject to full planning permission."

Graeme Robertson:

As I said previously "Please be aware that posts don't always appear immediately...."
If you clicked "Post" twice, then that is the reason, exactly as now, saying you haven't posted twice is rather nit-picking.
Quoting the report of what Mr. France has said is rather meaningless without reading the full report, he's only repeating what Arqiva have told him, he is not (AFAIK) a structural engineer.
Whilst it's true the temporary 80m mast will not restore perfect coverage for everyone, it can be provided quickly.
If you go to the Bilsdale transmitter page, starting at Bilsdale (North Yorkshire, England) Full Freeview transmitter | free and easy (there have been previous updates) you will find links to Arqiva's and Freeview's updates including the most recent (8th Sept). You'll see from the reports by Arqiva (and thus Freeview) what is proposed and why. The timescales for replacing the main Bilsdale mast itself and not doing anything else would leave many thousands without service for an even longer period!

Oh, forgot to mention that the site does have software that eventually removes duplicate posts, so one of your above will get removed eventually.
