Thanet (Kent, England) DAB transmitter

Are there any planned engineering works or unexpected transmitter faults on the Thanet (Kent, England) mast?

No problems on any service. BBC

UK Free TV shows the coverage area for a radio transmitter as a coloured overlay (orange for FM, other colours for DAB) on the grey map. We have computed the coverage by combining the terrain with the official radiation pattern. A single click will select the transmitter to view the coverage for a single site, and a double click goes to a page showing full details. Click on the buttons in the right-hand corner of the map to choose from different frequencies (or multiplexes for DAB).

Bob Dellow: I have the same problem, I live in Gillingham I have a Roberts dab radio which picks up radio Kent and have just bought a dab clock radio Tesco own brand, which does not. So is it the radios or the transmitters?

Having real problems in Cliftonville. Pictures have been breaking up for a couple of days today can't get any stations properly at all. How do we know if its a signal problem or our aerial which looks ok ?

Jenny Redman: Although the Cliftonville area is indicated as being covered by the Margate Freeview Light PSB only transmitter (i.e: no commercial channels such as ITV3 /Pick TV/4Music etc) your area is also covered by the Dover "full service" transmitter, however no faults are seen listed against either station, then the easiest way to determine if your problem is being caused by a fault on your aerial system, or possibly by interference from elsewhere, is to make a local enquiry with such as a neighbour.

That said is on the assumption that you have checked that any jumper leads used to connect the TV into the aerial are tightly fitted into their sockets.

By the way, if the elements on your aerial are pointing up and down, then your reception is from Margate, elements on aerials facing towards Dover being horizontal.

I notice that the previous review was posted a couple of years ago but the problem still exists. I have no tv reception for the past three days (June 2016) and now I am wondering whether I need a new aerial or whether the fault is at the transmitter end. (OR WHETHER IT IS THE WEATHER)
When I checked with my neighbour he said that they have Sky so is that the solution? My cousin is visiting me from South Africa next week and I would not wish her to believe that we are not even upto their standards.

The Digital Signal in Thanet CT9 2HS is great until the weather is good, ie High Pressure, this was never a problem with Analogue, but now is absolute rubbish...

Cliftonville has a pre 1950's TV service like a lot of other things here and no one is interested even though our MP,s did at one time take up the problem for us. We get our signal from Dover and the output is very low compared with what London does for the Londoners. I re-tuned my Tv and also a Humax tuner recorder and after 3 goes I gave up. Our aerials pointing at Dover have horizontal bars so will not pick up from booster stations that have upright bars and they only receive a few channels anyway as well as them not being in the same direction ..

David: Firstly, why have you posted something about TV in a DAB section?
next - you havn't bothered with a postcode, so we have no idea what sevice you should get. And you might have a poor setup.
And if you really had a 50's TV service you'd only have 2 channels, which I bet you dont. About 7% of the UK population chant get the full range of services, and that because commercial channels cant be bothered - your not worth it.

If you cant get the full range, just go for Freesat.

Broadstairs

Hello, I live in CT10 1AZ and have experienced 'no signal' problems for the last week. All the BBC channels are perfect but ITV channels and Ch4 and 5 pixelate from around 4pm onwards and I haven't been able to watch Good Morning Britain and am having to resort to the BBC1 breakfast TV.

The rest of the day the TV is perfect in all channels, it's as though the service cannot cope at peak times. Is anyone else experiencing problems in the Broadstairs area?

Maria:

Freeview reception won't be affected by "peak-times" ! ;)
Are you still having a problem? You are not in a particularly good location for Freeview reception, whilst the Freeview Detailed Coverage Checker gives possible reception from 3 different transmitters, they are all "variable" reception. Do you know if your aerial is pointing ~SSW with its rods horizontal , or ~NW with its rods vertical?
How old is the aerial installation?

There is some Tropospheric Ducting Effect of tropospheric ducting on Freeview | Help receiving TV and radio around again at present, but it doesn't seem quite as bad as a couple of weeks ago, so this might be affecting you, but it's only been present for 2 or 3 days.
