This transmitter has no current reported problems

The BBC and Digital UK report there are no faults or engineering work on the Newhaven (East Sussex, England) transmitter.

UK Free TV shows the coverage area for a radio transmitter as a coloured overlay (orange for FM, other colours for DAB) on the grey map. We have computed the coverage by combining the terrain with the official radiation pattern. A single click will select the transmitter to view the coverage for a single site, and a double click goes to a page showing full details. Click on the buttons in the right-hand corner of the map to choose from different frequencies (or multiplexes for DAB).

18 March 2016 - we seem to have lost ALL of the DAB radio stations on Newhaven-11D . I have done complete retune and none of the stations such as talkSport and Classic FM are even listed. What has happened? Any ideas?

I have two DAB radios in Seaford, one upstairs and one downstairs. Until a few days ago they were both working well most of the time, except for occasional short silent gaps.

In the last few days reception on both of them has become very poor, the "underwater" effect.

As of yesterday Friday 16th September 2016 the dab reception in my home at Telscombe Cliffs has become almost non exsistant.

I have several radios in the house and a personal dab all of them are effected with no signal or very poor quality sound ie gurgling.

Previous reception was excellent. What has changed?

Like Andy Webb, yesterday (Friday 16.09.16) we lost all the stations on DAB D1National 11D waveband. All the BBC stations are still there, together with those on the Sussex Band. Today (Saturday 17 Sept) at 18.00 hrs they are still not back. What has happened, because no faults of service interruptions are reported on the Newhaven transmitter page

David Hitchin: Like yourself here in Seaford since Friday (16.09.16) all our DAB radio (2 Pure radios and " Bose) we have been unable to recieved Classic FM which frequently goes astray - I do not understand the techinal jargon and can't find that there are any faults showing on the aerial. I have tried retuning at various times but to no avail. Has anyone any idea what is happening here and when we will get full digital coverage?

Seafordrose: Suggest you contact Classic FM at the link below to report the transmitter fault. The coverage prediction for your postcode shows that you should have coverage of Classic FM on DAB if the transmitter was working properly.

Seafordrose: Good afternoon Seaford Rose. Sorry for responding more than an hour after your post! I expect you are using the Newhaven DAB radio transmitter like David Hitchin in Newhaven itself. The Newhaven transmission site was having engineering work carried out on the transmitters on Friday, which must have been continuing today, if you, like David have been unable to receive stations transmitted in DAB on the Digital One 'multiplex' (group of stations). If you are interested in listening to Classic FM whilst the Newhaven DAB transmitter is off the air, you could switch over to analogue, i.e. the FM band, where you will find Classic FM on a frequency of 101.9 megahertz from the Brighton (Whitehawk Hill) FM transmitter as an alternative. Most DAB radios have the analogue FM band on them as well as DAB. I'm sure that Newhaven DAB Digital One will be back in a couple of days. Richard, Norwich.

Richard Cooper:

Many thanks for the information, sorry for the delay in responding.

I am trying to listen on FM but the quality here is Seaford is so poor, so I am carrying my laptop around the house to hear my favourite station clearly. It is interesting re the engineering works on the Newhaven transmitter, I couldn't find that info out which is why I was thrilled to find this site. When situations like this occur at Newhaven it does seem to take an age to recitfy, so patience is the only way to go. Hopefully it will soon be back transmitting.
