This transmitter has no current reported problems

The BBC and Digital UK report there are no faults or engineering work on the Churchdown Hill (Gloucestershire, England) transmitter.

UK Free TV shows the coverage area for a radio transmitter as a coloured overlay (orange for FM, other colours for DAB) on the grey map. We have computed the coverage by combining the terrain with the official radiation pattern. A single click will select the transmitter to view the coverage for a single site, and a double click goes to a page showing full details. Click on the buttons in the right-hand corner of the map to choose from different frequencies (or multiplexes for DAB).

Transmissions on ensemble 10C have started (just data at the moment) in preparation for the Muxco Gloucestershire service due to start full test transmissions next month, August 2013.

As I recall, these were originally planned to start around 5 years ago but the service will be vey welcome now.

I think if the 10C mux goes out at the same power, this coverage map is optimistic. The BBC in their roll-out plans and development plans for 10C both suggest that there will be a need for at least two transmitters in the Forest of Dean - one on the Coleford BBC/ITV West TV mast, and another on the masts above Cinderford at Collafield.

andrewp: Yes, thus "the coverage area shown is the official radiation pattern, the actual terrain and receiver aerial position will affect reception reliability."

Unlike the TV system, these maps are just the radiation pattern, with no ray-tracing.

Just to say that transmissions on ensemble 10C have started transmitting with 4 stations operational.

Radio Gloucester (On Test) 128KBits/Sec
Heart (Gloucestershire) 112KBits/Sec
Gold 112KBits/Sec
Sunshine 112KBits/Sec

Excellent reception here at 5km from the transmitter. Well done Muxco even if it has been very much delayed.

Muxco say "Also, please remember that the Gloucestershire tests are just that tests. This means that there may well be downtime for the multiplex or individual services between now and launch."

Sporadically In the last few days, DAB Radio 4 reception has been troubled/slurred on my bedside radio. Whilst the DAB Radio 4 Extra (as an example) reception has sounded OK.

When the slurred DAB Radio 4 reception has been happening, changing to the Radio 4 Extra has provided a good reception for that channel. So I'm concluding the strength of the DAB signal received by radio is OK/adequate.

Bizarre.

Yes that is bizarre as they are obviously carried on the same multiplex!

Chris. Thanks for your response.

I have 5 preset buttons on my radio that are set to Radio 4, Radio 4 Extra (one channel slot on from Radio 4 in the DAB signal), Radio BBC Gloucester, Classic FM and Radio 3.

When the slurring on Radio 4 is happening all those other stations sound OK. The BBC ones I expect to be received in the same DAB carrier. But not Classic FM.

Anyway, switching over to traditional FM and Radio 4 at 93.4Mhz: Radio 4 sounds OK but weakish.

I'd say what it says at the top of this page:

This transmitter has no current reported problems

is not completely true.

Kevin:

You may be correct, but unless the BBC have recognised a problem, that's unlikely to get updated.
As you may also get signal from Ridge Hill and/or Malvern, if there is any issue with transmitter synchronisation at any of them, then this may cause a problem.
Suggest you go through the BBC Reception Help website and follow it through to the end where it'll be brought to their attention and they will respond to you.
