Are there any planned engineering works or unexpected transmitter faults on the Varteg Hill (Powys, Wales) mast?

No problems on any service. BBC

UK Free TV shows the coverage area for a radio transmitter as a coloured overlay (orange for FM, other colours for DAB) on the grey map. We have computed the coverage by combining the terrain with the official radiation pattern. A single click will select the transmitter to view the coverage for a single site, and a double click goes to a page showing full details. Click on the buttons in the right-hand corner of the map to choose from different frequencies (or multiplexes for DAB).

Why are you still saying on this page that the outage problems were only up until 18:00 on Saturday, 22nd, when the transmitter is still giving problems, as confirmed by your chap in Belfast this morning ? ( Monday 24th August )

What is the point of this website, if it doesn't give up to date and accurate information ? Its either right of its wrong, and at the moment its wrong !

When can we expect the Varteg Transmitter to be fully functional again please !

Mike Higgins:
This website is nothing to do with the broadcasters, it is entirely independent of them. Therefore it is also reliant on the information made available from the responsible operator regarding status of transmitters and any engineering or maintenance work at them.

It seems that many problems relating to loss of some channels occur after some engineering work has been completed. There could be many reasons for that, such as an increase in output giving some viewers too much signal and hence loss of some services (check whether your TV has a signal strength display, it should be around 70% or so but not 100% as that is far too strong. See Freeview signals: too much of a good thing is bad for you There could be other reasons including aerial problems.

Mike Higgins: It is all very well, to tell us that its off, we know that because we cannot receive anything other than commercial programmes. The important thing is, when will it be back?

Perry and Mike Higgins:

We really do need a post code (or that of a close by public building or shop) so we can look up which transmitter you should be using and hence determine if there are any engineering works ongoing or maybe some other reason.

Bear in mind that this website is totally independent of any broadcaster and the transmitter operator. As such, we contributors are as much reliant on the information available from the broadcaster and/or operator.

I live in Brecon Road, Ystradgynlais SA9 1QL and can see Varteg Hill Transmitter out the window.
Around two weeks ago Freeview went off for a few hours along with FM Radio.
Facebook chatter confirmed it was for maintenance work.
Hours later TV came back on FM Radio never came back.

I have a good quality dipole ariel installed which used to give a full scale deflection on all my FM tuners, now there''s no reception at all.
BBC reception checker is utterly useless and unhelpful with no further option.
Any idea who we should talk to?

Thanks

Peter: Have you checked that you're definitely tuned to the correct frequencies for Varteg Hill and not Carmel? Have you checked with another radio which is not connected to the same aerial?

There is a phone number on the BBC Reception Advice contact page, where you can leave a message for someone to call your back, as well as a contact form to report technical faults.
