(Don't know your postcode? Find it at Post Office Postcode finder).

UK Free TV uniquely shows you transmitter coverage maps, aerial to transmitter terrain plots, the closest 10 mobile phone masts (for possible 5G-at-800 interference) as well as tabulated information (sorted by direction, by received signal strength, by frequency, by service names or by transmitter name).

Jacqui: When dealing with problems of the nature described its always by far the best policy to make a local enquiry (neighbour etc) for the purpose of ascertaining if others are also experiencing similar problems to yourself rather than altering anything connected with your own installation, because should others also be experiencing similar difficulties then obviously the cause of the problem is out with your control.

The reason for saying this being that engineering work has been taking place at Waltham for a few weeks now and with a "liable to interruption" notice having been posted to this effect, and notices such as this can include anything that affects reception such as weak signals etc.

However should your neighbours not be experiencing problems with ITV1 then your problem could simply be caused by the signal level being fed into your TV or box not being sufficiently high enough above the reception cut off threshold for your receiver, the result of being that the slightest drop (or variation) in strength will result in picture break up, and so to get an idea of the signal being received at your location you should carry out a level check on BBC1 (C49) and making a note of the strength / quality being indicated, then change to ITV1 (C54) and making a similar check as before but paying particular attention to the quality, insomuch if its seen to fluctuate with frequent spells of diving downwards etc, because if it does then this could be caused by a combination of a weak signal being affected by the large swathe of trees next to the A6 carriageway that the signal from Waltham passes over, this type of problem not being easily rectified albeit that the situation is sometimes improved by moving the aerial slightly to the right or left of where its presently mounted.

I live in TR11 4QQ and our Freeview reception hasn't been up to its usual standard for a while. Last night the signal was lost altogether, not just for us, but for a wide area from what I can gather. My DAB radio is also gurgling when it's normally fine. There is apparently no problem with any of the transmitters round here, the weather is "normal". Maybe they are mucking about with 4G. Who would be the organisation to contact as there obviously is a problem beyond our house/aerial?

Sharon Arnott: The current weather conditions are causing transmissions from other areas to travel further than normal, with the result that those signals which share frequencies with your nornal services are causing interference which shows up as a rather unhelpful "no signal" message on digital tv. This situation might last for only a few seconds, but can also be present for hours or several days in exceptional circumstances. The frequencies for the PSB muxes from Emley Moor are also used at Wenvoe and The Wrekin, Waltham shares frequencies with Mendip, while Sutton Coldfield's PSB frequencies are used by COM muxes at Bilsdale. If you leave the receiver tuned to your local frequencies reception will resume when conditions revert to normal. However if you have attempted to re-tune by scanning for channels you could have lost your normal channels if they were blocked by interference or replaced them with useless long distance alternatives. In that case you will need to re-tune when the interference subsides.

I'm deaf and rely on subtitles most of the time. In the last few weeks all commercial program subtitles are out of sync on Freeview. BBC channels are fine. If I use a TV with satellite there are no problems but this isn't always convenient, depending on which room I'm currently using (bedroom, kitchen etc.) .When will this problem be rectified? Dave P. Post code DE4 3JX (Matlock) on Bolehill transmitter.

For the last few days the picture is breaking up and sometimes is lost completely.Last night it was perfect but today it was breaking up at around 9:30 and then was lost completely. just switched on again and perfect. Is maintenance work being carried out at the transmitter? Tv not at fault as other TVs have same problem at same time
