Below are all of Lordgeous's postings, with the most recent are at the bottom of the page.PS I meant to include as a "mystery" why only certain channels are effected. BBC 1, 2, 3, 4, etc always fine, ITV1,2,cha 4, 5 etc have been intermittent.

SORTED! Finally decided to get the professionals in and it turned out my distribution amp had failed! Last thing I thought of as some channels still had a strong signal, but now I realise that weaker channels were borderline and were'nt making it. A few minutes with a signal strength meter made this apparent. This explains why all was well until a few weeks ago which is when it must have gone up the spout! JOY! Can strongly recommend local ariel guy (if I'm allowed to post their details on here).

A radio question: for some months now my car radio (Sony/Toyota) has had very poor reception on Radio 4. It seems OK in Bath but traveling out of Bath reception gradually deteriorates. Presumably the Automatic Frequency Switching is not working - though I don't have this problem with any other FM station, and surely if it was faulty it would affect other stations? Or is R4 on reduced power for some reason? Thanks for any comments. Drivings not so much fun without R4!

I'm in Bath (BA1), high up with a high gain, wide band ariel pointing at Mendip transmitter, which feeds various rooms in my house via an indoor distribution amp. I've always had strong reception but in the last few weeks a number of channels (eg Sky news, Dave, Yesterday, E4, Pick etc) have poor signal, lots of pixellating, sometimes zero signal. There seem to be no reports of transmitter problems, visibly ariel looks OK and I get 100% signal on the 'good' stations. This is common to all TVs and PVRs in the house. Retuning makes no difference. Any ideas anyone? Or anyone else in the area with the same problem? Thanks.

Cheers Guys. I'm aware of all that! Though close to Mendip, Bath is surrounded by hills and thus has a local submast. Trouble with this is that it can only accomodate a small number of the available freeview channels and so most of us high enough point our ariels at Mendip. What i can't understand is that while I've been able to receive all channels for years with no problems its just in the last few weeks my problems have begun! What's changed? Mast and booster were installed professionally and signal strength tested good with booster but inadequate without, and I need distro amp to feed signal to 5 rooms! Ah well, will keep investigating!

Thanks Chris, all HD channels have strong signal. MikeP, I have some signal attenuators which I'll try again. Thankyou.

Bath
Thanks again JB38. Yes I also have a fairly sophisticated satellite set up (large motorised dish, HD receiver, PVR etc) which I've been resorting to recently - a better picture too in my view! I work with digital audio but digital picture technology is pretty much an unknown area for me.
Can I just say what a relief it was to discover this site and be able to share information and benefit from your expertise - is it a labour of love for you? (Not my business I know).
Regarding my issues, the main mystery for me is why its all been OK until recently? I've spoken to quite a few other local residents (on Mendip) and I think without exception they all suffer from SOME reception problem. As far as I know no-one's planted a huge tree or built some obstruction between Bath & Wells! I might just ask the local TV shops if they know anything but for now I'm happy to have reasonable reception. Fingers crossed!
Thanks again.
