Dumb Question from a Wrekin tuned viewer... From the viewpoint of people tuned into the Wrekin this announcement means that there will be NO ANALOGUE service available over night on 18-20 January but Digital services will continue as normal - is that correct?

Hi, me again! Wrekin help please . . . I live in the Severn Gorge on a development that is within the Ironbridge world heritage site and so has restrictions on TV & satellite aerials etc. We have a communal system (professionally installed heavy duty Philips kit) with 1 wide band aerial pointed at the Wrekin, 1 FM & a Sky dish. This is combined and via a single cable is distributed to 40 properties. My brother is ex-BBC transmitters (25 years ago!) so by (illogical) default I have picked up the responsibility for managing the TV set up here for the 40 properties. So that's the background!

This site has been really useful to help me keep everyone here up to date with digital change over, but recently I have noticed some conflicting dates appear. My summary of the position for the folk here is:

The switch over will be phased over a number of days and you will have to retune on April 6th (when analogue BBC 2 is switched off and some existing digital services change); again on 20th April (when all other analogue services are switched off and new digital channels added); finally again on 28th April after all changes are completed.

I've also told them that we will start to receive the free to air HD channels too, and get a much stronger digital signal.

IS all this true or have I got some dates / info wrong? Thanks!

Briantist - great thanks - but what are COM changes? And what does this mean in non-tech terms - will there be any channels missing between April & September, and will we need to retune after 28th September?
..and just to say thanks - your knowledge is much appreciated here.

Briantist - no need to apologise - The info is very useful and (now) I understand! Many thanks.

Hi Briantist. I've just retuned my TVs & BT Vision box on the Wrekin. My Sky Spots through BT Vision is missing, as are a number of other channels I thought we would recveive as new channels (the HD's, Dave etc). Using BT Vision box to check strength etc, I get the following
514Mhz - 80% strength, 100% quality.
490Mhz - 77% str, 100% Qual
698MHz - 61% str, 100% qual
Does this mean that there is another mux (?) to come on stream or have I got something wrong? I pay extra for the Sky sports so where have they gone!??! Thanks, Steve

Briantist, errr, thanks - but what does it mean? I've read the paragraph but don't understand it.... Are the sky sports (BT vision) channels there or not? It says 'on their old frequencies' but after a full rescan I can not see them at all now.... Can you provide a translation into english!??! Thanks!

Hi Mike, So if I understand you, then I can't get these channels again until September??? What about the HD channels and Dave etc that I thought were supposed to be coming on stream after today's retune?

Hi anyone! re previoous very annoying stuff about missing channels after a full retune. Will a manual scan help me get Sky Sports back - and if so where should it be found now? Also, still not sure why no HD channels are showing at all after the retune today. Thanks for help...

OK, I understand the (bad) news on Sky sports, but the HD issue is a problem! I have now looked at the prog guide on my Bravia full HD TV, and the HD channels are there (and work!) so it seems that the BT Vision is old and not up to the mark! A call to BT in the morning is called for - Thanks!
