The relays are provided to fill in black-spots in reception caused by the terrain and to allow anyone who has an existing aerial pointing at them at switchover will continue to get the public services.

Bob: If the box will not receive a signal from the satellite, then the recordings on the box are lost I am afraid. The box requires a working signal for playback functions to be enabled.

Aerial Point: I don't think such a list exists. The changes to allow boxes to auto retune at switchover was added to the specification for Freeview (the so-called D-Book) quite some years ago.

Adrian: It is most likely the SCART cable that connects your Freeview box to the set. Remove it from both devices and then reconnect it firmly.

Carl: As will the digital switchover in general, there will be no test signals. The service only will have allocated frequencies from the start date and will start then.
