SIMON HANDLEY: The over strong signal problem is restricted to Freeview boxes. It is caused by having a oversized aerial or unnecessary boosters.

Joan Wray: If you don't have a digital box for watching your German services, yes, you need a new box. You can use any "generic free satellite" receiver, such as
Satellite Receiver for Free Digital TV : SD Free-to-Air Satellite Receivers : Maplin Electronics

John Turley: All electronic devices have a "power on self-test" (POST) as part of their start up sequence. For this reason, turning the power off and on again, usually with a few seconds pause, will ask any device to test itself.

Most devices just assume that if everything is working OK when it was turned on, then they will continue to be that way.

maureen williams: Connect the DVD recorder to the digibox using a SCART lead - put the lead into the digibox's SCART socket marked "VCR".

Then use another SCART from the port marked "TV" to the TV.

Put the Sky box into stand-by mode to watch the DVD recorder.

You are not using RF (aerial lead), the settings are not required.

mr g bull: You are expected to get your digital signals from the Crystal Palace transmitter, so you should be getting BBC and ITV London.

You will also get a poor digital service from either Hannington (BBC South) or Oxford (BBC Oxford).

If you can get other versions of BBC One/ITV 1 channels, they will be in the 800-899 range.
