I'm quite sure that homes around The Wash have always used Belmont, as I recall this "title card" being shown on ITV in the 1970s (when I was very small):

Chrispy: I'm not sure why you think that postcode you provided is a poor reception area, it is listed as having "excellent" reception, as long as you are using a rooftop aerial.

George Buchanan: The figures provided by Ofcom make the assumption that each household in the country will use the transmitter with the strongest signal. This is done on 100m square basis and calculated using detailed population density information.
It's not a guess, it is a calculation.

Joe Parker: Which says you will get Freeview Light from Wharfedale or Addingham, half today, the other half plus Freeview HD in two weeks time.
