Elliot (hockley) : You are not predicted any signal at all from Crystal Palace. Assuming that aerial is mounted on the roof, you should be able to get the public service multiplexes now, and the SDN multiplex from 27th June 2012.
I would have thought you would be better advised to use Freesat - see Compare Freeview Light and Freesat TV | ukfree.tv - independent free digital TV advice .

Peter Henderson: All the official documentation says the whole UK switchover is complete by the end of 2012, so I have adjusted the projected dates to reflect that.
Don't make any assumptions about who, if anyone, will get the Channel 6 local TV allocation. This is all out for consultation at the moment.
As for the services, the official position is Lords Hansard text for 12 Jan 201112 Jan 2011 (pt 0001) :
"Radio Telefis Eireann (RTE) broadcasts are currently available to some homes in Northern Ireland by virtue of overspill signals from transmitters located in the Republic of Ireland. Consequently, there have been no costs to the UK Government.
As set out in my Written Statement to the House on 20 December, the UK and Irish Government have agreed that the most effective way to provide for the continuing provision of TG4 in Northern Ireland following the digital switchover is to build a new, low-power TV multiplex in Northern Ireland. This multiplex will also carry RTE 1 and RTE 2.
Work on the cost elements of the new multiplex is continuing. The costs of broadcasting RTE 1 and RTE 2 will be met by the relevant Irish authority on a pro rata basis, according to the proportion of the new multiplex used. The other costs will be met by the UK."

ronald trevey: Yes, that is correct. The aerial should be in the Horizontal position (the elements parallel to the ground).

Alan J: The idea would be that the people working would be multiskilled, as it normal for TV reporters. They would write, film and edit the content.
To say that the content would be "unwatchable" is a bit presumptuous - most TV news reports are created in this way, but yes, there is a trade off in terms of costs to provide for the required localism.
People always say they want "local" (rather than "regional") news when asked. As there is no money to throw at these projects then they will have to work within a tight budget.
The above schedule was working on an assumption that people will "dip in" to the local channel for no more than 30 minutes at a time, just a few times a day.
The local channels are not required to compete with the existing channels, they will be providing something new - local news, reportage and information.

Elliot (hockley) : You might have problems as long as Dover uses C58. The official predictions do not five you the commercial multiplexes until 27th June 2012.
You are predicted no signal at all from Crystal Palace.
