Michael: I would suspect that as Richard Desmond "hates" Rupert Murdoch, Channel 5 would probably love to have the channels unencrypted.

However, Channel 5 has a contract with SSSL and I would suspect this stipulates the encryption stays.

In particular Channel 5 HD is one of those "exclusive to Sky" HD channels that Sky bribed into existence.

Really to replace Dave Ja Vu on Freeview
Monday 8 August 2011 12:14PM

Mike Dimmick: Yes, you do have to remember to record things, but "series link" can quickly gather a lot to watch and you can skip the adverts too.

The broadcasters like +1 channels as they cost very little to provide, schedule and promote.

I think that UKTV chose "Really" because it will provide a better female-profile, with "Dave" being male-orientated and "Yesterday" for the older viewers.

Whilst G.O.L.D or Alibi might be more popular, UKTV do not wish to undermine their paying subscribers.

Mike Dimmick: Thanks. I will, shortly, change the import so you can see details of both the horizontal and vertical component.

I was primarily interested in the coverage area, and it makes no sense to total the horizontal and vertical for that, so I have taken the maximum value of the two as a receiver at position 'n' will receive either the horizontal or vertical signal, or a proportion of both.

You would have to two aerials, one positioned perfectly for horizontal and another for vertical and combine their signals, and this I can't see as a realistic.

Sarah: It should be fixable, but it isn't something you could do yourself. If you have had the set for less than two years the retailer you got it from should fix it for free for you (or indeed replace it).

Michael: If you do not have a Freeview HD (DVB-T2) receiver, your box will not even recognise there is a broadcast.

The transmissions are in a mode (256QAM) a standard receiver does not implement and the channels are encoded in MPEG4, which cannot be decoded using a receiver with the older MPEG4 standard.

NottsUK: Thanks for the Daily Mail link, I put it in the Newsbucket whilst ignoring that fact that we don't elect judges in the UK either.

I have also posted up New Astra 1N satellite to offer more UK-focused capacity - and soon | ukfree.tv - independent free digital TV advice .
