jb38: Yes... It's probably worth pointing out you can get a Freeview HD box for £20 -
Isis - Isis Freeview HD Set Top Box - ISI-DVBT2 - Best Buy UK
- and they all will present a "select your preferred region" menu if they find signals from more than one transmitter.

Brian: No, the commercial multiplex operators declined to broadcast from any of the smaller transmitters as they regard it as too expensive. If you want more channels, and you can use a "Full Service" transmitter, try Freesat - see Compare Freeview Light and Freesat TV | ukfree.tv - independent free digital TV advice .

Mark: When you say "a blue screen" do you mean you can view the EPG on the Freesat (box I presume) but you can't watch the channels, or do you just get a "blue screen" the whole time?

Dave Chapman: I would do as Philips suggest and disconect the aerial from the TV and just connect it to the Humax PVR9200T and use that to watch your Freeview channels.

You have very little to gain from getting a new television set as you say, unless you get one with Freeview HD built in.

michael: Thanks.

I suspect that I need to do a "full list of all masts" page now.

Not all mast will come out of service. The community radio services will stay on FM and many DAB transmitter masts are FM or Freeview sites.

Michael: Channel 5 was once owned by RTL and they entered into a contract to provide "soft" encryption for FIVE, FIVER and FIVEUSA (as they were then).

When switchover started, FIVE got a slot on a BBC Astra "2D" multiplex so that it could provide the public service facility on Freesat.

For this reason, the existing contract for Channel 5 (all ad regions), 5* and 5USA still use "soft encryption" and require the non-subscription card.
