margaret clow: I would check the cable connecting the set to the aerial, if you have no analogue or digital then this is likely to be broken/missing/disconnected.

andy: As you are not yet in a official Freeview coverage area, you will expect this to happen until switchover brings you full power signals.
A good option for now would be Freesat. BT Vision *IS* Freeview.
