Nick Boosey: I can't say without your postcode, but generally speaking you should use a rooftop aerial, not a loft aerial.
The need for a wideband aerial depends on the transmitter you are using, if it is Brecon it won't make any difference because it only transmits the channels listed at the top of the page.

Vaughan: I would suggest you move your aerial to point at the Mendip transmitter, which you will get a very good signal from.

Janice: You are not in the Bluebell Hill transmitter coverage area, so it is not even slightly surprising.
In fact, you are not in an official coverage area for all multiplexes until Crystal Palace switches to full power on 18th April 2012.
