Wibble: Signal boosters are usually unhelpful for digital reception, as they will boost the any interference more than the digital signal.

If you want a better signal, move the aerial to the roof. For digital reception is not the signal strength that is important, it is the quality of the signal.

Lisa Wallace: You don't have to pay Sky to fit a dish, you can pay anyone you like. Even places like Argos will do such an install for £100, Twin Freesat Installation. Reviews, Twin Freesat Installation. Ratings at Argos .

Declan: You use HDMI to connect an Sky+HD box to your HDTV. You then use a single SCART to connect the Sky+HD box (SCART socket marked DVD/VCR) to the DVD Recorder.

Lisa2806: You can't pick up Freeview in Germany, it is only broadcast from terrestrial transmitters in the UK.

David: It could be a local interference problem, please see the list of things on the Freeview intermittent interference | ukfree.tv - independent free digital TV advice page (the problems are the same for NICAM as digital TV).

Ian Drummond: Is the aerial on the roof?

Generally speaking you should have perfect Freeview reception both now and after switchover.

If you don't have perfect reception, as you suggest, this is not likely to improve at switchover.

KMJ,Derby: Sorry, are we looking at the same thing for Darren Forster?

All I can see for Ridge Hill is "Variable reception" getting worse and worse over the coming two years...

Keith Walker: Yes, you have to point at the appropriate transmitter to get the local news service.

Freeview HD starts from Nottingham on Wednesday 13th April 2011.

See "Comparison of analogue and digital signal levels" for details of the signal strength - basically 40W increases to 400W per multiplex.
