The problem with amplification is that it does nothing to increase the quality of the digital multiplex reception.
This is because the amplifier will boost the interference in the signal as much, if not more, than the COFDM signal. This is because amplification does not change the signal-to-noise ratio.
You usually see this problem when you have 90%-100% signal strength showing on a set-top box, but the signal quality goes from 100% to 0% and you get sound dropouts and picture freezes.

Jacktar: LOL at the "Taxi Driver" comment, I haven't heard it in a while. I never seen being taken for Robert De Niro as anything other than a complement...
The *normal* reason for lack of multiplex D from Sutton Coldfield is having a 'grouped' rather than 'wideband' aerial, but this will not be an issue after switch-over.
I'm a bit concerned, however, as you are predicted to have excellent reception already on all the multiplexes, but you may as well wait for the full power service before you do anything to your aerial.

mike green: I would suggest you also consider replacing the cable - use satellite-grade coaxial cable. The cable often deteriorates before the actual aerial does.

sharealam: I does seem very strange there is all this capacity and no actual channels.
