just a thought. My tv ariel is misaligned by 5 degrees compared to neighbours (though they dont use theirs).

Could this account for missing com6 (given what I have said above)?

Mark: it worked. the channels break up more than the rest (probably down to misallignment) but that is simpler to fix. thanks

is there any reason that new multiplexes should break for a while then be clear?

coms5 is virtually perfect now but was unwatchable for the first few weeks after swichover. I have a similar problem now with coms6- however as my device failed to find them for several weeks this shouldnt be relay teething problems. The coms6 channels dont only break up the devices both say no signal after 30 seconds or so (identical to coms5 early performance).

Yesterday for a while every channel was perfect, now they are behaving as above. My cabling is new and signal fine (from relay)- just wondering if anyone has an explanation.

this list doesnt appear to include many free channels. It lists all the freeview ones, but what about those on freesat(or fsfs) and not on freeview

Any thoughts on having problems with just one multiplex (coms 6 ARQ b), all others come through perfectly.

We dont have a freeview hd box, but all other multiplexes come through perfectly without any problem.

Coms 6 is totally variable. Sometimes the signal comes through perfectly, sometimes you get no signal at all.

Has anyone got any thoughts about how 1 multiplex can be so variable without affecting any others (coms 5 is sent out at the same power, according to the information at the top of the page, could the relay be broadcasting this multiplex at less power than the others?).

I'm just trying to work out if this multiplex is bad for a reason or if it is a problem in my house. I havent been able to ask people around me as they all pay for their tv (it was only at switch over that you were able to get any freeview in our vicinity at all).

I just cant understand why all the other commercial multiplexes broadcasting at the same strength, come through perfectly but this one is most of the time unwatchable (though occasionally it is fine).

Ive had a look. I do have a digital recorder, but turning this on or off makes no difference (it does contain a digital tuner so it would be a bit odd if it was the problem). My video player is not ever on unless its in use. It also seems to make no difference whether the freesat box is on or off. As such while it still could well be interference, I am not sure what with

Interestingly, currently it is not picking the multiplex up at all at the moment(the channels just disappeared from the lineup last time I did a scan). I don't know why it is doing it, would be nice to have the channels, but it appears for some unexplained reason it is unavailable where I live.

Anyway thanks for your help

It appears you are right about the interference problem, though it appears to be intermittent. I lost all channels I was having problems with (we had a power cut).

I put the laptop on standby, and did a rescan on the tv (having done one without changing anything)- magically I got the missing channels, however the same does not work for our freeview recorder.

As a test I then rescanned for channels on the TV and it found all the ArqB channels it failed to find before- this time with the laptop on.

So currently I have perfect signal on all freeview channels on the tv, but the recorder 30 cm below is missing all channels from arqB (not merely bad signal but none).

I suspect that I am simply in an area where ArqB is at its limit to cover, so minor factors cause it to drop in and out (or appear on one device but not another).

I spent some time turning devices off (at the wall) to attempt to find the device but was unable to improve things with any of them.

It is possible that it is nextdoor (we live in a terrace and I believe next door has there TV and other equipment against the other side of the wall) however as they use sky it is impossible to confirm this.

I suspect I wont work it out or solve the problem but it is curious how it seems ot work

Richard,

This is precisely why I am so curious. There appears to be no reason why ArqA and ArqB should be different at all, however with ArqA we get virtually perfect signal, with ArqB when we pick them they tend to appear perfect for approximately 30 seconds. At that point they start to break up and within seconds they are unwatchable - they stay this way till you change the channel and come back.

Thanks for any thoughts (I am writing this with my laptop on my knee, which means it cannot be the laptop (I didnt have a reason but thought it might be something tod o with it((

I am trying to work out whether my signal problems are simply that I dont have good enough signal or whether it is interference. I live in GU52, so only received any freeview channels as switch over neared completion.

We have tried various things, including realigning the ariel. The signal does not arrive with enough strength for one device, I do not have a splitter on it or anything else.

On a bad day I get PBS1, Com 4 and com 5. I get PBS2 on a good day.

What I am trying to get is an explanation (if it isnt interference) as to why most of the time PBS2 is unwatchable (usually that is good, much of the time it simply says no signal), but from time to time I will turn it on and it will work perfectly. Yet PBS1 which is meant to go out from Hannington at the same strength, is always great quality signal. By the same reasoning, why do I almost always get com5, but com4 only occasionally and com6 not at all, when again these are all at the same strength.

I would be grateful for anyone explaining this for me. thanks
