I am very hard of hearing like about 14% of the population of the UK yet most of the Freeview Channels I try have no subtitles.
Why is nothing being done about this?

Brian M. Leahy: I understand that but when I contact channels with no subtitles many of them claim that they were using them on the programmes I complained about which suggests a technical problem.

I keep losing subtitles and unless the TV is stuffed it must be the transmitter and it means that as a deaf person the channel I may want to watch is of no use to me. Is this a common problem?

I apologise for jumping into this thread but I have no idea how to start a new one. I purchased a PAN TX32LXD60 LCD television in 2006 so I recognise that it is 8 years old. I am very hard of hearing so I rely upon subtitles and I keep having to switch the sub title control on and off to keep even BBC 1 programs. I have had the aerial checked and that is all right. I understand that this may be a problem with the transmitter but I would like to know if it could be the television. Is there anything I can do and would a new Television work better.

My trusty old portable radio passed away last week so I went on couple of Radio Forums to ask what I should replace it with. It was generally agreed that DAB is a waste of space with one of the ant points being that a portable uses batteries 20 time as fast as an FM radio.

My fist TV program in the morning is the BBC 1 News and I keep losing subtitles. I then have to press the remote button that turns the Subtitles off and then on again to get the subtitles back again and this can happen many times.
Last night I wanted to check what was on and the whole system had slowed right down. This morning the first three channels which were all BBC were not on the list of channels so I had to retune the set yet again.
My aerial has been checked and my next door neighbour has the same problems so I can only assume that the transmitter is at fault so who does one approach to get that sorted?

I posted a thread on what I think is poor transmission strength a few days ago but can't find what happened to it.

I am extremely hard of hearing and rely upon subtitles. I attempted to watch the Kevin McCloud Sunday evening but there were no subtitles thereby de-baring the large number of deaf people from enjoying it.
