This evening (29 June) after about 22.30 the signal strength on Ch 25 (10 ITV 3, 27 ITV 2 +1, 30 5*, 31 5USA, 38 Quest, 39 The Zone, 44 Channel 5 +1, 72 CITV, 16 QVC, 23 Bid TV, 60) declined and the picture became unuseable. Crystal Palace report "no problems". Is this interference from an outside source on just one channel or something else?

The same problem as last night has happened again. At about 9.30 pm the signal began to break up on Ch 25 Mux SDN. It recovered about 20 mins later. Crystal Palace report no problems. Has anyone else experienced the same effect?

KMJ Derby. Many thanks for your helpful comments. Ducting had not occurred to me. I think electrical interference unlikely as only one Mux was affected. All the rest were rock steady. My other thought was that the Tetra system might be causing the issue if a unit were nearby but I do not know what channels Tetra could affect either directly or by harmonic. Aerial is mast mounted with a masthead amplifier and distribution amplifier in the loft. To use Hannington, the aerial would look through a group of Scots pines!

Good morning Susan, Sorry to hear of your problems. Just a few questions - how new is the aerial installation? The reason for asking is that old i.e. more than say 10 years, cables can get moisture in them which will reduce the signal slowly over a long period. It seems that your signal is getting weaker and that may be the cause. The solution is to get an aerial rigger to replace the cable. You may in addition need a mast head amplifier to boost the signal. I have two LG TVs and they both work very well.

I think it is quite reasonable that people who only use catch-up TV services (iPlayer etc) should pay the licence fee. After all, they are watching the same programme (albeit at a different time ) delivered by a different medium (physical connection as opposed to wireless). The means of delivery and time of watching do not seem to me to be very relevant. Of course, some people will argue that they never use iPlayer. The same argument was used by Tpeople who did not want to pay the licence fee as they did not watch BBC. They lost that argument.
