Do we have any rough ERP's to go on?... If the information is taken at face value in the NGW pdf's.
Then for example Brougher is set for 30dBw, i wouldn't think the gain figures are published anywhere but if a dipole antenna with a minimum gain of 2.15 dBi that would provide a rough ERP of 1100 watts.
Take Divis at 40 dBw we would be looking 10000 watts which is vast;y under powered compared with initial estimates based on 30Kw. Some of the radiation patterns look very restricted...

It's Newcastle and Camlough are the two sites being brought online. I hear the Timescales are 4 months for Newcastle and a little less for Camlough as the work is done.

While Ballycastle was implied has a contender it was never confirmed as a choice. In fact the last I heard Arqiva were looking to move the band 2 services to their site at Ballycastle Forest. The reason I believe is because Limavady is due an up rate in ERP and if they adequately cover the service area there is no point in a filler. Certainly the next four sites and Arqiva/Beeb have not mentioned Ballycastle but again that's not to say they won't at some stage. They have clearly said they will bring online two this year and that's Camlough and Newcastle and thats confirmed.
Just a point on Maddybenny More, the DAB band 3 stacked dipoles that are being put into use are highly directional antennas using a rigid line blocker. This allows them to drop the antennas added gain by 3db, it also allows them the option of a considerable power up at little expense in the near future. When the space is cleared on channel 12 in the south then we could see more powerful DAB tx's but until then spectrum will be tightly controlled and used accordingly.

I know were you're coming from but a high site isn't always the best choice from a spectrum planning point of view when using a low powered service. This leads you to ask questions such as were is my target audience, what distance are they from transmission and do they live under or over the radio horizon. When a high site is used they are typically of high power with limited RF restrictions and that can't be said for a band 3 service with severe restrictions that use highly directional arrays. You end covering less of your target area and causing more pockets of patchy reception were the power will tend to fizzle out or just get lost in the earths upper atmosphere.

There was some talk that Londonderry may get an additional single frequency for 1 COM mix the same for Cambret Hill using channel 50. It would appear it was only talk... This no info on this RTE T2 mix so you bet there are changes to come.
Some very strange ERP's for some low powered relays Benagh 200w which is a small in fill that Kilkeel can't serve. Kilkeel is 7dbw down on analogue but only gets 200w, Newcastle 800w which is a considerable power
hike for a medium transposer and use of channel 50.

There we go then - Ulster Dso dates finalised. Oct 10th finishing Oct 17th. All 3 main and all relays go at the same time.

Peter as i said before they haven't dropped Divis from inclusion in the RTE mini mux scheme, Black Mountain & Divis are being treated as co-sited, they're a mile away and 5 degrees apart. Reason probably being they will run a single channel from both and use the current main array for the mux then adopt the channel 5 array at Black Mountain to fill in the gap below Divis. Makes sense that 5 watts is the mentioned ERP.
Begs two questions the DTG won't answer is does channel 5 analogue come off the air before switchover and will the RTE mux be on air come stage2 dso.

I have it on the best authority Camlough and Newcastle DAB comes on air in the later part of next week. The Dso conversion work is well advanced and concludes Wednesday of next week.
