Nicholas Anderson: Ofcom hasn't banned anyone from being on FM, they simply stopped advertising new FM licences so that their spectrum licencing team can focus on advertising and awarding licences for small scale DAB. Any station that wanted to launch on FM had several years to apply for a community radio licence across several licencing rounds before small scale DAB licences were advertised.

Rowridge (Isle Of Wight, England) transmitter
Sunday 17 December 2023 5:40PM

Craig William simm: Rowridge is 29km away on a bearing of 190 degrees (slightly west of due south). I would try horizontal first as you are predicted to get the local mux, however the COM muxes are broadcast at a might higher power in vertical polarisation, so you may find vertical works better if the COM muxes have a weaker signal on horizontal.

ITV 3 +1
Thursday 21 December 2023 11:56PM

Tony Hillman: ITV3 +1 is just a placeholder channel on Freeview, it used to broadcast during the evenings (sharing CITV's capacity after it closed each evening) but recently changed to just an hour or two overnight.

Emley Moor (Kirklees, England) transmitter
Friday 22 December 2023 10:54AM

Graham : UHF channel 41 carries the HD versions of BBC1, BBC2, ITV1, C4, C5, BBC3, BBC4, CBBC & CBeebies. It can only be tuned on a TV or PVR/box with a DVB-T2 tuner, which usually have either a Freeview HD, Freeview Play or YouView logo (except Samsung TVs from the last few years which will receive HD channels but don't have the Freeview logo).

BBC One HD

P. Johnston: If you mean the Manhattan SX Freesat HD box, it should already have BBC One HD on 101 and will not loose any BBC channels in January.

Steve Donaldson: Both links you posted are working for me, not sure why Chris is having trouble accessing them.

nick horrex: The different multiplexes are fed into a combiner, with the output from that going to the antennas.

The number of people watching makes no difference to the transmitter power output. WiFi involves two way transmissions from one base station to multiple clients, with each device being allocated a time slot to transmit it's data. DTT transmitters broadcast a continuous stream of data, there is no return transmission or time division taking place to degrade the signal.

David Evans: MB21 has a map (see link below) showing transmitter sites for Classic FM, which doesn't show there being anything remotely near Whitby. You're probably better off upgrading to a DAB+ radio rather than using FM from a distant transmitter.
