I had a right game getting any of the channels now on frequency 34 (Dave being the one I particularly wanted on there). My aerial, an electrically boosted set top, was originally on the window ledge as this had previously got the best signal. However there, signal quality was down to 2%, i.e. non-existent with the aerial where it was. However, placing the aerial back on the top of the TV and pointing the antenna at roughly 20 deg from the horizontal facing SW seems to have eliminated all boiling and I can get all 6 of the main Muxes now (don't have HD, still got an old CRT in fact). Guess living so close to Crystal Palace (E Croydon) helps.

I wonder what difference 18 April will make. I mean, I haven't watched analogue for years now (I was living in S Wales until recently and the analogue went off there 2 years ago), but I was wondering if the final death knell for analogue will signal an increase in the quality of the digital signal...as in my message above I've managed to finally rid my viewing of the accursed boiling problem (remember when Angus Deayton and Richard Wilson were selling digital on the basis that you don't get ghosting or fuzziness...they didn't mention you might get far more disruptive boiling instead did they?...), for now at least. Hopefully with the CP transmitter fully switched to digital we'll see the end of it altogether.

...another thing, digital uses far less pwoer than analogue did, therefore the BBC will save on its fuel bills...does that mean a reduction in, or at least a freeze for now on, the licence fee?....

Yours, more in hope than expectation...

Has anybody else lost their digibox guide list for BBC2 since the 4/4 switchover? Still getting the signal ok, just no info so can only programme manually on that channel; nuisance...

Regarding excess signal to my home here in E Croydon; I tried it with the aerial switched off and hence just acting as a passive receiver, the quality on 34 went up a little but that on 23 and 22 went right down...in any case the balance seems just about ok now, a little boiling here and there but nothing to ruin any programme.

Maybe it's best to just sit through the problems with gritted teeth between now and 18/4, and if there are any problems after that then start looking long and hard for solutions...
