nick horrex:

It will have been such a long time ago that you may have said, if you ever did, whether your TV is Smart/Internet Connected, I don't remember. But you need to be internet connected to get the streamed channels.
The "portal" for Al Jazerra on 251 is on the SDN multiplex. If you aren't getting a channel at 251 rather than just a blank screen, you probably need to retune the SDN multiplex. Virtually all the Streamed channels (those now in the LCN251+ range) changed LCNs some time ago - August 21st - but 3 were unchanged.
If you haven't retuned at all since then, you may want/need to retune ArqA & B as well as a few channels have changed/ceased/appeared.
Likewise if you haven't retuned PSB1 since July, you may want to as the BBC Local stations all moved LCN after many commercial stations left Freeview.
U&Eden has joined Freeview last week LCN57 added to PSB3 !

Bruce:

Thanks for that info Bruce.
I'm somewhat sceptical about the "signal gets divided" explanation/excuse, it's sounds more like the memory can't cope/gets itself confused with all the available channels these days, after all it's an older model.

However, the important point is that by doing that procedure, the issue was fixed.
It'll be interesting to see if the problem returns next time you do a retune and get all the channel installed again.
If so, you'll unfortunately just have to repeat the procedure, but do let us know how it goes in future.
Thanks.

StevensOnln1:

Hi there. Are you seeing the same amount of Spam that I am, comments page and this board full of it!! ?
With all the spam, the question on the 28th June is currently back on p178.
That was a repeat of one on the 20th June, currently at the bottom of page 177, the reply to which at the top of page 178 linked back to a previous response here
All of the free TV channels on PGSTART1760 in the UK | free and easy for 21 years which was in reply to virtually the same question on
26th May.
I have deliberately repeated this information for two reasons
1) In the hope that Nicholas Anderson will see it this time, and
2) That I will repeat that part of the post with the links, as they seem to be the only way to get the information at present. Last time I went looking, site links weren't working correctly/lists were not appearing.

There's a bug in the links (they're the wrong way round) -

Details of all DAB radio station | free and easy for 21 years can be found at List of all analogue radio frequencies | free and easy for 21 years

AM/FM stations at Details of all DAB radio station | free and easy for 21 years

(Currently, site links in the menu seem to be working, albeit the wrong way round).
I'm not sure whether the sire owner is unwell at present, as there's a number of issues that remain unfixed and I've not been able to get any response.

Alec:

Jazz FM is carried on the Sound Digital (SDL) Commercial multiplex as a DAB+ transmission.
Unfortunately the Divis transmitter is the only one in Northern Ireland that transmits this multiplex. The Commercial operators presumably don't think it is yet cost effective to add further transmitters to the coverage.

Michael Bullen:

As per the post just before yours, the transmitter is the subject of Planned Engineering, so this is what could be affecting your reception. But as you haven't given a full postcode we can't assess how good your normal reception may be and whether you may be affected by the local terrain.

Hope you haven't tried to retune, either with badly pixelated pictures or no signal as this often clears the correct tuning (or tunes you to weak, variable and unreliable signals from another transmitter.
You cannot tune to signals that aren't there or can't be decoded.

Dr M Tahseen:

It's NOT being blocked Read the explanations in the posts above.
Al Jazeera have CHOSEN not to broadcast on Freeview because of the cost. They have a streamed service (had for a while) on LCN251 you need to get the SDN multiplex and have a suitable internet connected/smart TV or box to get the streaming. Otherwise you can watch on their website.

Paul:

1) It would have been helpful is you'd qualified your "for a while" remark initially to say it's been bad for over a year.
2) A full postcode (as requested by the site immediately above the box for your post content) would enable us to advise which is the best transmitter for your location, which way your aerial should point and the polarisation, and whether you could suffer potential interference from other transmitters or sources.
3) As has already been pointed out, the Aberdare transmitter is a FULL Freeview transmitter and you should therefore get all the Freeview channels if you are receiving Aberdare which it sounds like you may not be.
4) The signal is NOT transmitted at low quality, nor been changed to have very low quality - bandwidth/bitrate/etc.
5) Do you know what aerial you have, where it is located (roof chimney/wall/loft) and roughly how old it is?
6) Do you have any aerial pre-amp or amp/splitter to feed more that one set/device? Have you changed any equipment in the last year or so?
7) You say you have reduced quality. Can you please post the signal strength and quality figures for each multiplex's UHF channel you are tuned to, as well as quoting the UHF channel.
This will help with transmitter identification that you are tuned to, and give some idea of the interference you may be getting - that is usually the cause of reduced quality.

Paul:

Sorry, I forgot to answer your question about why ITV1 is missing from the PSB2/D3&4 list towards the top of the page.
Apart from the fact it won't be ITV1, it will be ITV Wales, there's clearly some bugs in the site owners software that hasn't correctly populated the channel lists. Something only the site owner can fix and we know he's not had the time recently (btw that's not the only error/omission from the lists).

ROGER F C ALBAN:

It's likely to be a combination of factors I'm afraid. There's been ongoing engineering at Mendip, see post(s) before yours, on and off for some time, and the effects on signals will not always be the same depending on the work at any given time, eg. whether they are on reduced power or using the Reserve antenna - details are never given!
There has recently been some tropospheric & temperature inversion conditions which high pressure can sometimes give and this could be quite variable over the coming few days.
Tides and water levels can sometimes also cause quite a variation in signals.

Also, given your general location you could also get interference from some of the Devon (and maybe elsewhere) transmitters from time to time in certain conditions. For example Huntshaw Cross uses the same UHF channels for its COM muxes as Mendip for it's PSBs.
Using aerial with narrow beam widths might help, but even then there will be no guarantees. Unless you are someone who is prepared to experiment a bit with aerials, you are probably stuck with the situation as it is.
Hopefully the engineering work will be completed soon and things will settle down!
