Northern Ireland RTE1, RTE2, TG4 special mini-multiplex from 24Saturday 20 October 2012 12:14AM
Belfast
Brian! On the 10th of this month after I had contacted DigitalUK regarding the NIMM the reply I received from them indicates that the NIMM will be on Channel 39 and the EPG numbers 61(TG4NI), 62(RTE1NI), 63 (RTE2NI)and 720 for RT RnaG Radio. A few differences to Peter's understanding! If anyone wishes to see the email I received from DigitalUK - email me directly kieranward@hotmail.com

Northern Ireland RTE1, RTE2, TG4 special mini-multiplex from 24Sunday 21 October 2012 10:41PM

Hi Brian and Peter!
Maybe it is just incompetence on behalf of Digital UK but this is the information I received. My query started with me using their sites enquiry form (see the first on the messages below). To be very honest I hadnt thought about the information Digital UK supplied in their first reply as while my daughter has studied the Irish language and might view TG4 or listen to RnaG radio, I dont understand the language.
I didnt take into account that BBC Radio Foyle is on 720 EPG.
I don't blame Peter in any way but I think it interesting that Digital UK suppling information which appears to be incorrect.
It will be interesting to see how things pan out on Wednesday next!
Best regards
P. Kieran Ward

Dear Mr. Ward,
Thank you for your email dated 10 October regarding the switchover.
Your most likely transmitter is Divis, due to switchover today (10 October) and again on 24 October. You will need to retune your equipment on both stages of switchover.
You should be able to receive TG4, RT One and RT Two services via your existing aerial from the Black Mountain transmitter after switchover. The channels will be broadcast in standard definition but Freeview HD equipment will be required.
These channels will start broadcasting as of the second stage of switchover when you retune. These channels will appear on the following channel numbers:
TG4 will appear on number 61
RT One will appear on number 62
RT Two will appear on number 63
RT RnaG radio will appear on number 720.
I have attached a retune guide that you may find useful.
Additional information can be found on our website at www.digitaluk.co.uk or if you would rather speak to one of our advisors please phone 08456 50 50 50.
Kind Regards,
Diane

Hi Diane!
I am afraid you haven't answered the question I posed. I have asked about the channel number for the Northern Ireland Mini-Multiplex from Black Mountain Transmitter (IJ278727). The channel number will indicate the frequency that the Mini-Multiplex will broadcast on. You have described where the stations which will broadcast from the mini-mux will be placed in the station listing.
I have included a list of the multiplexes which will carry the usual list of stations. I am looking for the frequency that the mini-mux will be broadcast on.
Regards

Dear Mr. Ward,
Thank you for your reply.
I'm sorry for the misunderstanding, the UHF channel number you would need on 24 October is 39.

Hi all!
Can I start by setting my location in context BT14 6NQ! My main TV set is a Toshiba UL863 with both DVB-T2 and DVB-S2 tuners and my HDD recorder is Humax HDR-FOX T2. I have always received good strong signals from Divis, Black Mountain and Clermont Carn and this has continued after DSO.
I have a bit of a problem with regard to Electronic Programme Guide from Freeview and Saorview from Clermont Carn both on the TV set and the Humax recorder. If I am on Freeview I cannot see details of programmes from Saorview and vice-versa. After-all all of the information for both services is being received from both transmitters; I would have thought that both sets of EPG data would be shown.
Am I expecting too much?

P. Kieran Ward: Hi Peter! Many thanks for your info. I would have thought that both sets of data for EPG would have been processed by the receiver and displayed accordingly!
Again thanks!

Hi Alister!
I have a Humax HDR Fox-T2 recorder and I will record Saorview channels provided you are receiving the said channels. The Humax HDR Fox T2 has a DVB-T2 tuner. Are you sure you are getting good enough signal from Clermont Carn transmitter?
This is the link to the Saorview hel/support site for the spec required for equipment that will receive Saorview.
SAORVIEW Equipment | SAORVIEW
On this page of the same site there is a coverage checker similar to the Digital UK coverage checker.
Can I get SAORVIEW? | SAORVIEW
Let me know how you get on.

Hi all!
I live in Northern Ireland and have a TV set that has three tuners - DVB-T2, DVB-S2 and an analogue tuner (no longer in use).
The TV set is a Toshiba UL 863. I also have a satellite dish up facing 28.2E and receive signals from Astra 28.2E, Astra 23.5E, Astra 19.2E and a few channels from Hispasat 30.0W. Before getting this TV set I used a Silvercrest SL65 set-top box and was able to receive BBC Alba. I am aware that satellites have been moved and some channels relocated or dropped from the channels available via satellite.
Can anyone help me with how to manually tune to BBC Alba? My daughter is an Irish language speaker and as you will know that are similarities in Scottish Gaelic and the Irish language.
According to the BBC site Alba is on Freesat but as the tuner in the TV set is a Freesat non-standard tuner I am having problems finding how to find BBC Alba from a satellite.

Hi Dave! I did look at that site previously and I have tried to use the data to tune to BBC Alba but with no success!
I would appreciate direct email correspondence with you - would you email me directly to: kieranward@hotmail.com

Hi jb38!
What you suggested I had already tried on a number of occasions but on your advice I tried it again and, it worked this time. There were a number of transponders that I wasnt getting before and now I am - many thanks!
Isnt it funny when you try something and it doesnt work and when others tell you that you were using the correct method and when you do it again it works!

Black Mountain (Northern Ireland) Freeview Light transmitterWednesday 28 November 2012 1:34AM
Belfast
Hi all!
I was wondering if anyone on this site can help me with what I describe as a mind-baffling problem. I live in North Belfast and my main transmitter is Divis (UHF C21, C23, C24, C26, C27 & C29). I am in the position where I also receive from Black Mountain and receive the UHF channels (C42, C45 &49) along with the Northern Ireland mini-multiplex - UHF C39. As for transmissions from the South of Ireland I receive Saorview from Clermont Carn on UHF C52.
I recently rewired/upgraded my television signal distribution system using RG6 co-axial cable (by Kontrakt) and a new Philex SLx Distribution Amplifier, 8+1 Way, 27824R (each outlet is 20dB gain). Four of my five cable runs are working fine and I receive all of the above channels. The cable run I have a problem with is < 70 feet (just over 21 metres) and the typical loss for the cable type would be in the order of 3 to 4 dB.
The equipment at the end of this run is a Bush DVB680 Freeview HD Digital Set Top Box (this box has a DVB-T2 tuner) along with a Toshiba DVB-T television set. I can tune UHF C21, C23, C24, C26, C27 & C29 from Divis, C39 from Black Mountain along with C52 from Clermont Carn at the other four points throughout the house but I cannot tune C39 (from Black Mountain) and C52 from Clermont Carn. All other channels are of good signal strength and quality. I have inspected the cable run visually and cannot see any problems. Any suggestions as to what could be wrong!

Downeagle - I believe I heard on both BBCNI and UTV that there was work being undertaken at the Newcastle transmitter during this week (21st - 25th May 2012).
