Hi JB38
Thanks for reply.
When on analogue the signal was so poor I fitted a motorised aerial direction box.
At one time it was so bad I had to aim at
Chelmsford, I think, and watch Anglia so unless something remarkable has happened to
improve recption I don't think it can be too strong. My nieghbours at the side and behind
had the same trouble so we seem to be in a dead spot. I took the box back and swopped it
but the new one is the same.Is there any difference between a cheap box and a dearer one. Will try with indoor aerial and let you know

Hi JB38
Tried with an indoor aerial and got freezing
and pixelating but wiggly picture seemed better I think a job to tell with the picture freezing.
Does this mean iv'e got to try and get a signal strength between the two ?
Would an attenuater help?
This is the price of progress I guess after it took me years faffing about to get a decent analogue picture they do away with it.
This seems a familiar story of the powers that be believing all the hype about new technology and jumping in feet first without
thinking of the consequences for the man
(or woman)in the street.

Hi JB38
Tried the bit of wire and screen freezes with
no signal message.
Interestingly enough the frozen picture still
has the interfence and hum on it.
Been watching it and noticed that even with sound muted the hum is still there on the picture. The hum is loudest on a full white screen and practically dissapears on a red screen. The picture interference looks like
the heat haze you get on hot days and seems worse when there are a lot of vertical colour
changes and dissapears on something like a long range landscape picture.Shame they don't
still transmit the test card.
The TV is a 14" Bush CRT says AK46 on the back (I still think that a CRT tube gives a
far superior picture compared to LCD)
Just popped into ASDA on the way home and they'd sold out off most of their Freeview TVs guess no-one told them about the switchover:)

Hi JB38
Have tried three different scart leads and wiggled ends to no effect. The scart lead I'm using was connecting this TV to VCR, I removed VCR and replaced it with the digibox
It worked OK with VCR does Freeview use the same terminals as VCR ? I know scart does not use all terminals for all things. I can take the TV apart and check the connections.
Guess this is all getting a bit academic now
and I should just by a new TV and hope it works and not waste any more of your or my time.I just resent chucking away a perfectly
good TV but at least it didn't cost much.I feel sorry for the poor souls who paid out hundreds recently for TVs that no longer work thanks to Freeview God bless them :)

Hi JB38
Thanks for all your input I have now purchased a Luxor 16" LED HD ready? whatever that means, cheapest one I could find and it works OK.
I will still try to find the problem with the other one when I've more time, just for my peace of mind.
I see a nieghbour has had a huge aerial fitted it looks like something off the Space Station must ask him if it works.
Is there an email address where people can register their complaints? Is anyone correalating the problems.
I don't see why people should have to have a satellite dish fitted as suggested by by yourself, perhaps the powers that be could supply and fit one for them ,if they had no problems before.
Personally I can live without hundreds of channels of "celebrity programs,no talent shows, and endless repeats some several times in the same week. As there are only enough programmes for half a dozen channels why do we need the other hundred? and Sky why?

David Taylor:
Hi Guys,
When Freeview Digital was first started I
purchased a box but got "no signal" message
(see original posts)
After full switch over all worked ok, except I had to buy two new TV's.
My house is in a dead spot and analogue
reception was never very good.
Yesterday I turned on TV and we were back to
the state we were in before, with no signal
messages and frozen picture etc.
Nothing has changed with my aerial etc.
Have they reduced the signal strength?

Thanks for reply
What I can't understand is why I've suddenly
lost the signal unless the power from the transmitter has fallen.
Could well be White Oak Centre causing a
dead spot.
Don't have line of sight to transmitter as
I'm down a dip.
