I am sorry to hear this news. For it means I will no longer be able to access the 'national service' on Freeview, when BBC Scotland decide to opt out. Losing radio stations to accommodate a Gaelic TV channel was bad enough. It really adds up to a diminution of choice.

As I write, there's a Euro 2012 football match on 301, with the option to silence the commentary while retaining the ambient sound. What a great facility that is. I've noticed that 301 is the only Freeview channel where there's a 'multi audio' choice in the TV's options menu, although most of the time the second option labelled und (presumably for under-something) produces only silence. Is 301 technically unique in being able to offer this facility or could the others do so also, and why is it not used more, even on that channel. It would be great to be able to choose whether we want someone twittering on all the time.
