Hi, I have just purchased a new sony tv with freeview built in allowing me to dump sky and return to plugging the good old fashioned coax cable back into my wall socket.

It seems to be working well with stunning picture quality but the hd channels do seem to drop out with any slightly un-settled weather conditions and I get a message saying no signal from antenna! I move to regular channels and they can still be problematic but sod it I want HD!

Now my roof top ariel, cabel and socket are all very old so I've purchased a new digi ariel and I will be fixing it to my chimney and running a new cable to a new wall socket at the weekend but my question is concerning where my ariel should point.

I am aware that the ariel should point towards the transmitter on the West side of Findon valley. However I've read that if your not sure you should be looking up at all of the other ariels in your street to see where they are pointing. Here is my problem/debate I think. All the ariels on the rooftops near me point west parallel to the seafront towards Goring and not North West towards Findon Valley.

So are we all wrong? Would pointing my old ariel towards Findon solve the drop out issue? Or is my ariel facing west enough to pick up good signal and that it's the age and condition of my old components that is the problem?

I'm going to fit a my new one in any case because I want nice new modern equipment and it is easily do-able within my skill range. Plus it will be easier than getting further up on to my roof to undo the rusted bolts that will allow me to swivel my current ariel. I will still have the issue of where to point my ariel. Follow the crowd and go west or point it towards Findon?

Any help or experience will be greatly received. Thanks...
