Below are all of Dick M.'s postings, with the most recent are at the bottom of the page.My tv aerial points to Sudbury, although being in Rayleigh I should get Bluebell like a train! Unfortunately, as I'm just below a high ridge up on Crown Hill - Bluebell is not an option, even with boosters, etc.
So this morning, after following yesterday's new Freeview retuning instructions (as for tuning from scratch), all we are now left with is just BBC TV channels!
My tv is a newish 42" Panasonic Plasma HD, and up til now has received loads of channels. Can anyone throw any light on what's happened. My last resort is to reposition the aerial to Crystal Palace, but @ 65, I don't fancy tackling my two storey roof! Thanks.

Shrimper: BTW, I still have my Humax HDR FreeSat box - so all is not lost :)
It's just that I have not "piped" my Freesat to other rooms with TVs :(

Some freeview digital channels are returning, ITV etc., but not @ full bore. So I checked signal condition of BBC1 & 2, and they are down by 66%, but pic not breaking up or any sound probs. This smells of a transmitter power reduction @ Sudbury? Or are there adverse weather conditions?

Shrimper: Regarding Tacolneston's transmitter maintenance @ Sudbury's expense ........... I did a "shipping condition" tuning exercise yesterday on my fairly new Panny Viera Plasma(HD)42". Got to say that when I did a new scan for all Freeview channels, I got a far better result with the strength of signal registered for all BBC, plus ITV, Ch4 & 5, and all the other lesser channels except Film 4. Also still no SKY News, but that used to be shaky b4 the latest transmitter antics. However, that's why I got my Humax Freesat box in 2010, to ensure reception of more channels (incl. Film 4), and improved signal strength - well most of the time ;)

Norfolk sees the end of analogue TV as high power digital startWednesday 23 November 2011 3:34AM

Our Freeview signal from Sudbury has reverted to absolute rubbish again. Also we are now finding that our Freesat box is having trouble with some terrestrial channels like ITV, ITV2, etc. However BBC channels on FreeSat seem unaffected. I'm thinking of requesting a reduction to my monthly TV license fee, as it ain't providing value for money :(
I'm still gob-smacked by Sudbury's transmitter being cannibalised for parts to ensure Tacolneston is OK!

Mazbar: Thanks for your response, but as I recently become a State pensioner - I'm not shelling out for aerial men. My sky dish was erected by professionals, and has worked fine for years. My freeview aerial also was receiving Sudbury perfectly, until the Suffolk/Norfolk transmitter men meddled. Luckily the aerial pointing to Crystal Palace, that I fitted myself to our chimney ages ago, is still providing a 100% signal
As for the other posters' comments, my response is - if I ain't broke it, then I'm not paying to fix it!
All the tekky reasons for this transmitter "event", are summarised in a few words: The License paying consumers who have been shafted should bring this issue to the attention of their local MP!

Sorry to come into this conversation late, but I was employed as an cost accountant by Ford Mo Co for most of my working years.
However, thru sporting contacts I was once unofficially invited to attend BBC's "social club" @ Shepherds Bush. I've been to some sports club bars up and down the country, but this was like drinking in heaven - as I'm pretty sure it was a permanent policy of free-drinks for all!
Needless to say, a new "hands-on" BBC Financial Director (worth his salt), from any top Company or multi-national in the UK or Europe, would tear up the unofficial BBC expenses book, and bring major order to proceedings! He won't be popular, but name me a GOOD popular accountant? ............. exactly! So it's a straight decision by the BBC "Gods" - either take the medecine, or keep taking the Pxxxx!

When did the Burnham-on-Crouch transmitter begin to send it's Freeview TV signal? As it's only 14.8 Km from my home, which is situated on one of the highest points in Rayleigh, Essex. I currently have a boosted Freeview aerial on my roof connected to our main TV, pointing to Crystal Palace (50.4 Km), and another aerial suspended in my loft pointing to Sudbury (48.2 Km), which gives the option of Anglia news & sport on one of our bedroom TVs. Thanks for any help.

We are situated on a high position in the Rayleigh, Essex area. What is the best direction for a Anglia tv signal?

If all these digital retunes don't come up to expectations, then pay for a HUMAX free-to-air satellite box, plug it on a spare node by your satellite dish, tune it in, and away you go. No monthly SKY fees, job done :)
