Hi, Im an installer in Antrim and recently Ch23 Mux seems to be having major problems with BER. The signal and level looks fine on the spectrum anaylizer however the quality of the signal is bad. Can this be looked at as I have customers and queries regarding this issue. I have noticed this myself over the last few week the areas are BT41, BT42.

Cheers

To add to my last post this problem also extends to Lisburn as well so there is a problem either with the frequency or the Mux! if channel 23 is to be used on DSO I would look again

Hi all, to the powers that be, 1kw of RTE on Black mountain is a cop out. to say this will feed 80 90% of N Ireland is just daft! If im not mistaken Ch5 is transmitted from Black mountain which is poor in a lot of areas. This seems to be a feed Belfast arrangement as your reception will depend on where you are in relation to the Divis tower. So how do installers know what way to receive RTE and advise cutomers, it is now Feb and the DSO is months away and info on RTE mux is getting beyond daft. This info should have been sorted at least a year ago and to be totally honest its a running joke!

Iain the simple anwser is you wont as Saorsat will be transmitted on a satellite which uses the KA band and not the KU band which most satellites use. The KA transmission will have a spot beam ONLY on Ireland and not the rest of the UK. The reason is money. Ireland have to pay per population on programmes from say the USA, so if they are transmitted on Freesat, Ireland would have to pay for the whole of the UK population as Freeview is available all of the UK. Hopefully this makes sence

Briantist your recent thread has shed more light on whats happening on Soarview in the north than any so far!! but yes the south can receive all freeview/Sky/sat but the soarview signal in the north seems to be restricted. I mention this as customers are asking and the info anywhere is to say the least crap.
So months to DSO what do I say pay for a full rig for claremont cairn or wait to Black mountain starts. At this stage of the game I should have this info.

Brian, Mike and Cush, thankyou for your input on this site I must apologise if I seem a bit blunt when asking about the mini mux as for a year or more I have tried to find out what was happening as customers have been asking and I have been frustrated by different documents and lack of information.

I would assume that a test signal will have to be up and running shortly on Black mountain and with the local mux on Divis?

Mux A channel 23 is up to its old tricks again! I have had numorous emails about this in the last 4 days. Is this going to be sorted once and for all? If the last place to go digital is not working now what hope is there for switchover?

I have read about Caldbeck and conditions reasons like this will not be acceptable to the public after October!

So judging by no reply what so ever that there is a problem, yes there is a problem and we hope it can be sorted when the switchover happens?

The government has sold all the frequency Fact!

Made a fortune Fact!

Mobile phone companies buying from government Fact!

Are you going to have problems with your viewing after DSO yes Fact!

Please feel free to say different!

Caldbeck is not causing all Divis problems unless I and others I know are living in a constant weather lift!

Do everyone a favour and just turn off CH 23 Mux A until it works.

I can bet if there was a BBC licence paying channel on this Mux these problems would not exist!

Now becoming a bad joke!

Peter: I am an installer it is my customers I speak for when I have to explain why they are not getting channels. 23 and 33 are in my opinion a disgrace at the minute. The quality is poor on my insruments but the signal can be booming in so a 16db increase in October does not give me any confidence at all. I have freesat HD on my main room but it does not show the Quest channel etc.

The good news for Freesat users is that they are adding 24 HD live feeds for the Olympics!

Which you will not get off a transmitter that cant even cope with Freeview Mpeg2. Perhaps this is one for Ofcom?
