I live in Wray, just a few miles south of the Melling transmitter and use Freeview. For over a week now there has been severe pixilation and break up, but only on idependent TV channels. C4 and C5 being the worst with slight break up on ITV but BBC1, 2, News and Parliament are stable and rock steady. I have checked my mast-head power supply/ RF distribution amp and all connections and can find no fault. Within the last couple of years I've had a new aerial and downlead fitted. Any ideas anyone, or any known faults on the transmitter?

Thank you MikeP. I have been otherwise engaged hence the delayed reply. I appear to be on the back lobe of Melling transmitter although with the use of a mast head amplifier this has not previoulsy been a problem. I take your point but I would be very surprised if my problem is being caused by too strong a signal, however I will seriosuly consider this.
I did a re-tune recently and thought the problem had gone away - which indeed it had for two days - but its back to pixilation and brek up again.

The problem with severe picture pixilation with the Independent Group of TV channels from Melling transmitter is being caused by the recemnt installation of a mobile phone 4G aerial system on the same mast. The 4G signal interferes with the ITV Group frequencies and can in theory be solved by inserting a filter, preferably on the TV aerial mast near the mast-head amplifier.
This problem has affected many viewers in the LA2 area but not all. It seems random who is affected and who is not. I am indebted to the engineers from Toobys of Ingleton who indentified the problem for me.

Transmitter engineering: Some approximate indication as to when the Melling transmitter is expected back on air would be greatly appreciated.
